Rock, Paper, Shotgun makes the best reviews.
What are we talking about? I was dumb when I was a kid, that's why I didn't notice bias.
Game Reviewers/Biased
Re: Game Reviewers/Biased
All reviewers are bias, because it's impossible to review a video game from a completely objective standpoint. There will always be some of that reviewers personal opinion reflected in the review.
The trick is this: You wan't to find the ones that admit their reviews are based on opinion. Because at least those ones are being honest.
Then once you've done that just find a review website/magazine that you agree with a majority of the time and you'll be set.

I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

I'd say this is the primary difference between reviews today and reviews from 20 years ago. A score of 8.5 would be a very positive review back then, but now it seems like an insult.dreamcast4ever83 wrote:Hell, Sonic Generations, which was an absolutely fantastic game, they barely squeezed in an 8.5, and I'm sure they had a hard time doing that... I think they realize that if they gave that game a bad score, people would be onto them...

I do agree with this. The scale has shifted over time so that 7 is meh, 8 is good, and 9 is great. Back in the 32-bit days, a 9 meant the game was utterly fantastic, and 10's were nigh unreachable. 8's were great, and a 7 meant the game was worth playing but has some noticeable flaws.SteveyMajors wrote:I'd say this is the primary difference between reviews today and reviews from 20 years ago. I didn't mean to infer that there aren't good unbiased sources. I just already talked enough about my annoyances of the majority of review sources out there in my post.General_Norris wrote:@Cronozilla
There have always been good, unbiased magazines. Micromania, a Spanish magazine, born in 1985 comes to mind. I'm sure others can name more.
I didn't want to execute an even larger no can defend wall of text.
Re: Game Reviewers/Biased
A review without bias is simply a list of features.
Also, showing only favor, or the cool features, is still a bias. We complain a lot more today, because we've seen the evolution of gaming, and a lot of the issues are ones we've all seen a million times. We're justified when we complain about shite camera control, illogical control layout, or any other trope we've been forced to endure. Sometimes, a game is just bad. Simple enough. And if you can't agree with this, then guess what buddy. You're biased! All journalism will have at least a bit of bias somewhere.

Re: Game Reviewers/Biased
I don't read reviews for good reason. I'll take word of mouth from friends over a score any day. Demos are also a pretty good way of selling me a game.
Game reviews, and all reviews, are inherently biased.
