I haven't even beat the 5th stage on the Genny version yet.

Game is hard... I'd love to try it with a trackball, but I'll have to make do.

I actually saw a trackball for gen at my local video game store, I might get it if they have Marble Madness too.

Edit: Finally beat it on my tenth game, although I played it a zillion times many years ago! 8)

Genesis - Normal Difficulty - 89620 - ALL

It gives you a big bonus for completion, but it subtracts 1000 points for every death...in my case that was 15000 points!! I was going for speed, and I had 18 seconds left at the end; but I imagine a cleaner game would get a nice score over 100000.

Well done! :D . Only managed to reach start of L5 (MAME) - but determined to complete it. I remember finishing it on my Amiga YEARS ago.

The "mouse upside down" thing doesn't work very well at all. I keep trying playing it with a regular mouse, but I always get the feeling that al lthat repositioning is a severe drawback :P

Haven't finished L3 yet.

Using a typical Genesis controler is the only way I've ever played the game outside of the arcade. It works pretty well if you use the speed up button judiciously.

I legitamately got a 69,300, got to level 5 only.

Since I suck at this game I couldn't beat it without my Game Genie. If you are in the same boat I am and have a Genesis Game Genie, the code is RGYA-A60C . You have to enter the code, start the game with the Genie OFF, then once the game starts and the clock starts, turn the Genie on and it will freeze the time and you can try and try again until you reach the end. I've had this game since way back when and I've never before seen the final level! (I only got a Game Genie recently.) My cheating score was well over 100,000 but that doesn't count since I cheated.

I have the Game Gear version too, but I really can't get very far on it at all.

69300 is a great score! :D I didn't get that high until I was mostly done the last level, so you must be doing something very well!

I think the Genesis version is the easiest for me...purely because of the controls. I managed to beat it with a lot of time left because I just held down the fast button 90 percent of the time...I died a whole lot (15 times), but I got through to the end.

I just tried my Game Gear version again and got to the 4th level and a score of 27,840. It is pretty much the same game as the Genesis version but the camera control is much worse. Quite often the edge of the screen is right in front of your marble thus making it hard to know which direction to go. If you bump the edge of the screen, it bounces you back as if you've hit a solid wall. With a little more practice I could probably get to the 5th level, but I doubt I could get much farther without a GG Game Genie which I don't have yet.

Yeah, that high score baffled me since my typical scores are 30,000 or less. I'm not sure how I got such a high score without finishing the game.

I'm playing the arcade, set 1. Running on an optical trackball (which I think isn't ideal for this game, but I already had to borrow it), tweaked Analog input on MAME. The default is 30, it seems. I could barely move. I put it first to 100, which was much better. Then to 200, and finally maxed it out at 255. Sometimes I get twitchy response due to the maxed out sensitivity and fall... But I can generally control it as I want and am finally able to get the marble spinning fast enough to do some parts - the optical trackball won't respond well to vigorous rolling so even with 255 amplifying the effect of the small movements that the hardware responds well to, I have serious trouble in Aerial Race (I can very, very rarely stop the marble from falling after it is launched, in the beginning, often cannot stop the marble from getting sucked into those vacuum things, and it's hard to do the jump later in the level).

I think I breached 40k yesterday, and I can more or less consistently get to the "Everything you know is wrong" level, only once was I able to even get near enough to SEE the Goal of that one. Bloody hard... Those flying darts / birds are like Bullet Hell in Marble Madness 0_o
