Best CRT for retro gaming?
Re: Best CRT for retro gaming?
Analog CRT internally convert the signal back to Y/C (svideo) to display it, so theoretically there should be little to no improvement with component. I'm not saying there isn't, but I'm not sure why there is.

^Really?
Can you show me which converter/transcoder you have? Have you connected only classic consoles or a computer as well?arnold_the_bartender wrote:Yes. I've been doing this method as well. I have a Toshiba CRT with component inputs and it looks fantastic and is a great step up from S-Video.crt4eva wrote:there is the SCART to Component option wish should be better than s-video. I'm hoping to connect an SD CRT to a computer for emulators at native res using the ArcadeVGA card.

I got this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEGA-SCART-to-R ... 3362ac07c8 I've only connected classic consoles to it.crt4eva wrote:Can you show me which converter/transcoder you have? Have you connected only classic consoles or a computer as well?
Yeah. The improvement isn't as dramatic as composite to S-Video but the differences lie with the colors. I can say for sure that the reds look much better on component and the text is slightly sharper. It all depends on the TV as well.Zing wrote:Analog CRT internally convert the signal back to Y/C (svideo) to display it, so theoretically there should be little to no improvement with component. I got a line on a Sony KV-36HS500 which looks to be perfect and the price is right but the DVI input is the kind that cant be made to work with VGA cables (for dreamcast) . Id need some converter. So guys do I go with the KV-36HS500 or look for something else?
If it is indeed true that the Sony wont work with a plain jane cable I could get something like this http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio-vid ... V2300.html How do you think that will work? Will it effect the over all picture quality?
I have a Sony KV-34HS420 and it has been great because while it does up-scan, it uses "field-scaling' (when you set the DRC to 'Interlaced'), and so you wind up with 960i and nothing is lost. I really like this for games that use the every-other-frame type of transparency. The only downside has been a lack of ability to use with light-guns, so have to keep an SD around for Virtua Cop 1+2.
