Pretty disgusting if you ask me. I suppose it's to be expected with how much the value continues to creep up though.
Apparently there are fake Earthbound carts floating around

This is why I hate the whole concept of "reproductions." They get out into the world and people can't tell between a real one and a fake one, and of course you will have scum who will knowingly sell them as the real deal without telling buyers.

On a related note, I find it so amusing that Earthbound is considered rare when there are always copies on ebay, much like Radiant Silvergun. Honestly, the prices that game goes for are utter bullshit.
Most people don't know what the Super Nintendo's real rare games are.

Agree completely. I can acknowledge supply/demand in economics, but with EB it's just stupid. The way I see it, the way people have blindly accepted the price gouging are to blame for the whole situation.Gamerforlife wrote:On a related note, I find it so amusing that Earthbound is considered rare when there are always copies on ebay, much like Radiant Silvergun. I'm just hoping that eventually this bubble bursts and we get more reasonable prices.brunoafh wrote:Agree completely. I can acknowledge supply/demand in economics, but with EB it's just stupid. Come on now, folks like Ziggy do great work, and no repro maker I know of would dare make something like a fake Earthbound cart.Gamerforlife wrote:This is why I hate the whole concept of "reproductions." Of course not all repro makers are quite so noble, but still. I like having the ability to own unreleased titles in physical form.

And, TBQH, quite a few of them aren't very good.Gamerforlife wrote:Most people don't know what the Super Nintendo's real rare games are.
Sometimes a game is rare because it was a rental-exclusive.
Sometimes a game is rare because it was a reduced print run.
And sometimes a game is rare because a majority of its copies are in a landfill somewhere.

Lots of repros are cool, especially when they're reproductions of super-rare games (Nintendo World Championships) or fan-translated English hacks (Mystic Ark, Romancing Saga 3, etc). Of course those ones are generally easily identified as repros. These Earthbound carts were created just to rip people off and that isn't very nice.Gamerforlife wrote:This is why I hate the whole concept of "reproductions."
