Games with graphics like Kolibri, CDi Zelda games etc

I am looking for games with the same kind of graphics/art style as Wand of Gamelon and Kolibri. They look to me like they are hand painted or drawn instead of having the normal pixelated background graphics. They look almost like some old paintings of European countryside, really serene, not overly bright or dark, light colors. Rayman Origins is the only game I can think of with similiar art style.

It's not quite the same as Kolibri or Wand of Gamelon, but Saga Frontier for the PS1 is an RPG with fully hand painted (I believe in water colour, even) backgrounds. Elemental Gimmick Gear also has hand-drawn backgrounds.

Legend of Mana has lots of painted backgrounds too. It's not a favorite in the series, but it's beautiful no matter how you slice it. Music's nice too.

OP, you should also check out the Princess Crown/Odin Sphere/Muramasa "trilogy". All three games feature beautiful 2D hand-drawn artwork.

It's not 2D, but if you like calm, serene level design, I couldn't recommend Flower enough.
