Trinity Broadcast Network has been showing JESUS GETS HIS ASS BEATEN TO A PULP the last couple of days, and I watched it again very late last night.
It's no more ludicrous or mechanically inept than Braveheart, but like Braveheart it works; in a movie sense that is, common sense must be thrown out the window. PASSION is a great representation of the mythology of Christ (not to offend anyone with the word "mythology") and follows the stations of the cross to a T.
I witnessed several walk outs when I first saw the theatrical release, but I've never argued that people shouldn't hate this movie. It's vulgar. It's a movie about brutal beatings and suffering. It's about humility, sacrifice and death. It's one of the few movies that has ever made me cringe and want to look away from the screen (and I've watched SPAWN and IN THE ARMY NOW).
What was the last movie you've seen?

Again. I don't know why I'd watch anything else really.

I completely and totally loved Sucker Punch. I'm kind of miffed how written off this one was. I thought it was great. Glad someone else appreciated it.Forlorn Drifter wrote:
I'm genuinely suprised how deep and poetic this really was. I don't remember much about the previews, other than T&A and violence... this had so much more though. It's one of the few movies I've seen lately where disturbing images and ideas are put down looking at the better idea. There was just so much emotion and realization. The effects and atmosphere are so well done. It's beautiful.
Also,EDIT: Got smaller image.

I've mentioned this before, but I can't wait to see Disney's CHIMPANZEE.
Really hoping for a 2D Imax release nearby.

See what I did there? You started it.Luke wrote:It's no more ludicrous or mechanically inept than Braveheart, but like Braveheart it works; in a movie sense that is, common sense was clearly shown. Let's not do the religious thing here guys - I think it's clear where all of us are gonna come down on this one and no need to have that conversation in this thread.
Moving on...I need to find a flick for tonight. Thinking about "The Best of Youth", but it's long and I don't think I have it in me tonight.

Noiseredux, a lot of the critics panned it, and many claimed it was sexist. That killed it past the first weekend. Something about the whole thing just gets me. The complete seeming innocence of Baby Doll, who is really one of the least innocent...

I saw The Sandlot at a drive-in back in the day. I remember liking it, but I was probably a similar age to the kids in the movie I guess. I don't really remember it to well, because that's the only time I've seen it.Luke wrote:You set 'em up, I'll knock 'em down.Breetai wrote: See what I did there? You started it.

I don't think I've seen Little Giants. Football movie with kids, I'm guessing? I searched for ammarite on the table of elements, but couldn't find it.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
It is disturbing to watch. I had trouble watching it the first time. But I think that was the point. To hammer in the fact that Jesus went through that much suffering, on our behalf. So it did that well, IMO.Luke wrote:Trinity Broadcast Network has been showing JESUS GETS HIS ASS BEATEN TO A PULP the last couple of days, and I watched it again very late last night.

But it don't agree that it represent the mythology of Jesus well at all. It only shows one single part of it, the crucifixion. What about his entire years of ministry, teaching, and healing? What about the prophecy before him that was fulfilled? And what about his appearances after his resurrection that he made to the apostles (which essentially began the Christian church)? Crucifixion was done great in Passion because it did capture the horror and suffering of it, but the whole mythology it just began to touch on.
