And nothing personal taken at all. Everyone's entitled to their opinion.

No need to apologize Michi. You have always been a breath of fresh air with your movie reviews, and you are always open to civil debates.

for some reason I remembered MK as being a much worse movie than it is. Really it just feels like a good goofy early 90's action flick. Certainly a better one than Street Fighter anyway. And actually Goro looked really awesome.

now this surprised me! DOA is actually a really fun movie. First off, I don't play fighting games for their plot. This movie seems to get that. The story is kept to a minimum, and what we get is a lot of fighting scenes. Perhaps not all are mind-blowing (Jaime Presley is not a martial artist of course) but there were some very impressive fights for such a low budget movie (namely ones involving Kasumi or Ryu). If you're a fan of good-bad movies, this is really one of them.

Funny, last time I watched this I had the exact opposite reaction. I remembered the movie being a lot better than it actually was.

I think MORTAL KOMBAT delivered exactly what was expected of it. Not only that, but for a movie based off of a video game they did an excellent job of giving each character an actual personality, and there is actually character development in the movie.

Not saying it's great, but that MORTAL KOMBAT is perfectly fine.

Plus it doesn't hurt that Billy Madison's girlfriend gets plenty of screen time.

I'm genuinely suprised how deep and poetic this really was. I don't remember much about the previews, other than T&A and violence... this had so much more though. It's one of the few movies I've seen lately where disturbing images and ideas are put down looking at the better idea. There was just so much emotion and realization. The effects and atmosphere are so well done. It's beautiful.

Also,
after the doctor commits the lobotomy, I'm suprised to see how self realized he is in what he has done. He understands it may be wrong. It just adds to everything for me.
EDIT: Got smaller image.

Watched two new (to me) movies last night.

Requiem For A Dream
Excellent, I thought, but rather depressing.
There's no good ending for any of the characters. Each starts out relatively ok at the beginning of the movie, but by the end everything is totally ruined. One guy in jail, one missing an arm, one a sex worker for drugs, and one mentally screwed.
The Man Who Fell To Earth
Not good. Didn't even finish it. I didn't know what it was about or what sort of movie it was. I had heard it was a classic, so I picked it up at the library without really reading up on it. Turned out, it was a boring movie filled with tons of sex. I thought it was supposed to be a sci-fi classic? I turned it off after about half and hour, and watched A Bit of Fry and Laurie instead.

^Haven't seen Requiem for a Dream, but I love seeing movies that are willing not to go the normal direction. Other than a couple of cases, I always think it is interesting when there's a twist. Any kind. Suckerpunch did just as advertised with it's twist.
