do you keep your damaged games, or sell them?

Post by Armymanis »

Serious question this time guys.

I have a couple of playstation games that have damaged jewel cases. I can replace the game a put it in a different cd jewel case no problem, but how do i go about taking apart the back of the jewel case in order to get the artwork out or would it be better just to buy another one?

What do you guys do with your damaged cases/game cartridges? Do you keep the game or do you sell it and get a better copy. I bought a mario party game off gamegavel.com and the dude never told me there was a hole in the N64 cartridge. The picture just looked like their was a little incy wincy bit of writing on the label, which was fine by me. When I got the game however, there was a hole in the cartridge. Cost me $18 and no refunds either. What do you guys do with your damaged games even if they are working?

You should be able to just pull the plastic apart, without breaking it, to get the artwork out, then put the case back together again. Nearly all jewel-case backs are actually 2 pieces of plastic slapped together with the artwork between them.

You just pop the jewel case back right open. It comes apart with just a little bit of force.

The front should slip right off without any excessive force or prying. Just be sure not to damage the hinges on the top and bottom.

Man, CD cases are easy as hell to take apart, everything pops off. Keep in mind that those multiple CD PS1 game cases have two "backs" instead of a front and back.

I buy packs of empty CD jewel cases at Staples and use them to replace any beat up PS1/Dreamcast game cases I might acquire. I might get some empty DVD cases in the future, some of my PS2 stuff has seen better days.

And to answer the original question, I generally keep everything unless it doesn't work at all. I own many old/stained/faded NES and Atari 2600 carts. Both of my Game Boy Color screens are scratched to hell (I may replace these some day) and one of my GBA SPs has an incredibly scuffed up casing.

To remove the CD tray, you want to pull from the buttom (or top), by separating the back from the tray, then firmly pulling up on the tray, it'll pop the locks without breaking them.

Removing the cover plate is more delicate. You have to bend up one of the prongs. But you don't need to lift it very much just to get it out of the socket.

If you do any of them too hard (not a lot of force is really needed) you'll break the plastic, so don't do that :P

Also ... really? Never!?

I normally replace the busted cases especially saturn cases cause foxhound is ocd when it comes to stuff like that. I have some games that have seen better days cause i collect from atari -new stuff if i find a nicer copy i will sell the crappy one.
Some games though i keep just for when kids come over to play with if i have disk games that can't be fixed i use them as drink coasters.
