Have you played the Fatal Frame games bruno? I beat the first game and got really far in the second, overall I'd say they're genuinely the scariest games I've played personally. Absolutely everything else I've touched from RE, to Dead Space, etc, just doesn't scare me at all lol. I play that stuff in the dark and alone for fun. But Fatal Frame was different, it wasn't quite you just having the camera and being vulnerable, but the amount of detail on the backstories for some of the ghosts, the plot, settings, and the supernatural elements sealed the deal for me. It wasn't cheap scares, the game got in your damn head and kept you up at night thinking. I have not touched the original since it was new ages ago (damn it's been awhile), but I can vividly remember so much about the game it's pretty awesome and crazy. "MY EYES!!!" Reading about the rituals was so fucked up.

I've always kind of figured that the SH series might be legitimately freaky to me as well. In fact I do remember not being able to play SH2 in the dark I think, when I was in the basement at some old home. I remember roaming that hotel and there was some crazy banging on the walls or something, I probably played with headphones as usual... the sound design was amazing from what I remember and the atmosphere was just way weirder/scarier than anything in RE or whatnot.

I should mention I can completely remember where I stopped in SH2, because it's funny, but I got to the first Pyramid Head fight and quit there, because I just kept dying. Yeah, I didn't learn until months or years later that you're just supposed to survive that for awhile or something...

I always considered Fatal Frame to be an underrated 'third pillar' of sorts when it comes to the major Survival Horror franchises out there. They're really great (well the first two are at least, never did get to play the third).

Those ghost battles are fucking INTENSE. The camera thing seems really lame an unassuming as a weapon, but then just the way it works, how you have to be in first person, and you have to get right up close and personal (but not too close!) to do any worthwhile damage, it's really great.

Fatal Frame 1 is a bit scarier, but 2 is a better game overall I think.

Yes, very much so. But, I feel like SH 1 and 2 tell this story so much better than the movie did. I do hear where you're coming from, but man how SH 1/2 tells this particular hell on earth story... so amazing. So disturbing. The interactivity probably had a lot to do with it moreso than the story-telling itself I suppose.

No, I really need to. Gotta dive in sometime though.

SH gives me the vibe you seem to have taken from Fatal Frame though. It goes so much beyond typical survival horror games and just really freaks you out. I mean now that I'm in my 20s a video game isn't going to seriously distress me, but, SH is really creepy. Like you said, best played in darkness with headphones. The sound design is really stellar, and amplified with phones. Almost like an entirely different experience really.

Interesting to hear. The whole camera bit is something that put of me off the series really, but giving it's popularity there must be something fueling it. I will probably start from the beginning, whenever it is I want to check out the franchise, and go from there.

Carrie-Ann Moss as Claudia? ...Interesting.

Yeah I think it's pretty underrated. You always see other names get thrown around, but not Fatal Frame all the time. Now with those price drops I might have to get the whole trilogy again sometime and revisit them.

At the time way back in jr. high, I was so thankful once Fatal Frame ended... it felt like all the despair while playing it lifted away, haha. Felt so relieved. I think the best part is I always played those games with a big group of friends, I'd play, someone would narrate, they'd help me with puzzles, etc, and it still freaked us the hell out even if we weren't alone.

I think it was the second game, but I remember getting towards the end of the opening village, running up some steps with stones around them (on the outside), and there was a ghost floating around the place. Did the quick 360 camera turn and the ghost was completely right up in my damn face got my friends and I so bad haha. Priceless. So many great moments with those games.

You'd probably really dig them bruno.

Turn your speakers way down lol:

So what I gather is that the 360 Version > PS3 Version?

They are both crap but 360 has fewer bugs.
