Now this is kind of an odd problem. I have a model1 genesis with a 32x and all the original cables. With the genesis by itself, the video output is great through the RF and AV leads out the back. Video is even great with the model1->model2 av converter and a model2 av cable. Things get interesting when I hook up the 32x. 32x and genesis games all have a purple tint coming through the AV cable from the back of the 32x. I've actually tried 2 different 32x units and it still happens.
At first I thought it was the genesis->32x passthru cable but I don't think that's active when I'm running a 32x game since the 32x does the CPU processing and outputs it directly. That would lead me to think the AV cable from the 32x to tv is bad but it works fine when plugged into the AV-out (and model1->model2 av adapter cable) on the genesis. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't remember hearing of this problem. If these 32Xs both have the same problem, it's likely not them. How long have you had them? Have they ever worked on this Genesis?
It seems that the only things you haven't tried two versions of are the Genesis to 32X conversion/passthru cable and the Genesis itself. I'm not an expert on the Dual Hitachi hardware workings, but I wouldn't rule out that cable; if it's damaged it may cause an interference. The Genesis itself may work fine on it's own, but if there is anything screwy with it that doesn't hamper it's own play, it could possibly harm the 32X's.
When the 32X first launched, there were dozens of incompatibility issues reported between the different Genesis units, AV cables and even TV types. I'd suggest to try a new one of those cables, maybe switch TVs, try a different Genesis, and then just go through all your possible connection options again.
Perhaps someone else has had or heard about this... It doesn't seem to me that it's faulty hardware, it seems to fit in with the initial launch compatibility problems - all of which could be corrected by switching connections and sometimes units. Try a new conversion/passthru cable anyway.

Just a suggestion since I can't be sure this is the issue but are the metal shielding plates installed in the Genesis cartridge slot? Also check to make sure that your power cable is not wound up around the video cables. Maybe your video cables have a small fray in them or they are getting interference from something. Are you using an official Sega brand AC adapter that is the correct model number for the 32X? There is a website called: vidgame.net that will show pictures and model numbers for practically every console and accessory ever manufactured. Hope these suggestions point you in the right direction to correct the problem.
