I recently have been building up my Sega CD and Saturn collection and I have noticed how bad these cases are. I hate them but I love the way they look. I've also noticed how easily these games value changes based on the condition of the case. I guess it is easier to replace a PS1 case then one of these big bad boys. But the point is that it is a lot harder to find them in good shape and if you do how much more you have to pay for it. What are your thoughts? Are you willing to pay more for the better cases since they are CD based games or do you just except the broken hinges and cracked fronts?
PS: To the Pros of collecting these games with these types of cases, can I get some tips and advise on collecting them and preserving them?

There's some local places that price purely based on the title. So if I really need more cases, I can always go there and just buy a bunch of junk games.
Sadly the case isn't a standard of any kind. But I'd suggest becoming a connoisseur of Dracula on Sega CD.

I agree that they look great on a shelf and are very easy to choose what you want when they are stacked on a shelf but I just can't bring myself to buy anymore long boxes. I've been trying to buildup my saturn collection lately so I am just buying Japanese games since the cases are just normal CD cases and easy to swap out with CDs from my girlfriend collection. Also the jpn saturn games have a much brighter look on a shelf, the orange just pops so nicely.

I make it a habit to have perfect tall cases when applicable. Search around thrift stores or used game stores for old sports games with these cases in good condition and swap em out. Even better if it has the little foam insert! Otherwise, if you take good care of it like any other jewel case, you should be fine. Don't leave them sitting around.
And hey, they're not nearly as difficult to keep in great shape than the PS1 Cardboard Long Boxes. And you can't really swap out the cases either with those.

Luckily we only got about 8 or so Mega CD games in these cases, then they switched to normal double Jewel cases. The Saturn had its own proprietery case that was similar to a DVD box.
Dispite being fragile I love them, they are so oversized its absurd.

The retro store near my house has about 20-30 sets Cd games(mostly sports titles) for 1-3$ a piece CIB
I have been buying those up as much as my pocketbook will allow me to.
