Do Hott women who work in game stores make you buy more?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I believe that it is actually the reverse of what you think it is. It isn't that the woman is attractive which triggers you to buy. It is that having the qualities that make her a good salesman also happen to be the ones which trigger emotional attraction.

No, a girl's attractiveness has no influence on me buying more. I don't have some diluted idea that buying more from the store will get me a date or anything.

I'm also a pretty stingy shopper, I go into stores 95% of the time knowing I probably want one thing and nothing else.

I appreciate the talents of a good salesperson (whether I find them attractive or not), and will usually tell them if I think they're exceptionally good at it. Feedback is important, after all.

Here's the thing though.

I'm impervious to salespeople.

No really, I am. I never go into a store without my mind made up about what I want, and there's simply no way a salesperson can convince me otherwise. I willl not spend more than I planned, buy additional items, warranty plans, or magazine subscriptions. I won't use that handy B2G1 coupon if there aren't 3 games that I really want. Etc. I find salespeople are rarely armed with pertinent or helpful information either.

Usually I just politely tell them not to waste their time with me, and direct their energy towards someone else. I figure I'm doing them a favour -- while they're wasting their time on me, other gullible folks (perhaps like the original poster?) are quickly buying and leaving, grateful that they didn't have to decline an upsell! THE HORROR!

I appreciate a good looking person as much as the next gal..but I like to think I have more substance than to base a buying decision on another person's looks!

You must be very lonely.

But seriously though, if it's an attractive woman, perhaps I'll actually listen for a couple seconds longer instead of just summarily dismissing what she has to say.

At the end of the day though, it's the substance of the pitch that'll make me put some money on the table, not her "hotness."

No. I buy what I want, and no more. Salespeople annoy me anyhow.

I could say the same about customers. What you guys should hate is corporate enforced initiatives, such as magazine add-ons, which the company expects a certain amount of from the store.

There is nothing wrong with someone telling you about the daily specials or suggesting products that you could want. I could put up a thousand signs and people still don't realize a product is on sale, especially if it's buy one get one free or a percentage off. People will also buy products that won't work for their needs.

A good salesman reads a customers needs/wants, and in the end sales them nothing, its the customer who sold themselves.

For instance right now my company made a buy of ear-buds, that with any purchase they are only $4.99, and it's is one of our current initiatives. Is there really anything wrong with letting customers know about this special? Now is it more wrong that that customer spent $9.99 or higher on other ear-buds, and you never mentioned the sale?

Generally, only the weak willed and basement dwelling gamer would be swayed by an 'attractive' employee, in any type business. Sure, there are some industries that pray on weak men and women alike with sexual imagery, but a game store isn't one of them.
I used to work at a gamestop when I was 16, and I was the only male on board. My sales were just as competent as everyone else's.

Not usually, although when I was on the fence on pre-ordering Skyward Sword, the attractiveness of the girl asking me definitely helped me make my final decision. I don't regret a single dollar of it; I love the game and my golden Wii Motion Plus.
