Playing old fighters on emulator over the net?

Hey guys,

I am a big fan of the old school 2D fighters. Is there a way to play the old school games online with your friends or is there some kind of match making server available?

I'm thinking something like Xbox Live but for all old school multiplayer games...

Does that even exist?

I don't know about emulation. But there's xLink Kai if you wanna play certain PS2 or PSP games online (it takes the LAN or AdHoc settings and turns them into actual online games). Other consoles are supported as well like GameCube for instance, but I've really only looked into PS2/PSP myself.
