It seems near impossible to me to combo charge and HCF/B (half circle front/back) supers in several fighting games!!!!!

1.World 8 in Mario 3...I HATE world 8
2.Doing that race in Mega man legends to get the shining laser
3.Wily 1 in Mega man 8 JUMP JUMP SLIDE SLIDE
4.The final special stage in Sonic 2
I was eventually able to do #s 2 and 3 but for a LOONG time i couldn't. To this day I still can't get past world 8 in mario 3 surprisingly although then again I stopped caring/trying a long time ago.

I got through this game when I was younger, but I used a Game Genie to "practice" the later levels. Once I felt good about them, I made a run at it and got to the end. I will never do it again, and do not ask me to repeat it.Gamerforlife wrote:Makes it a perfect candidate for emulation, but I don't think beating it via emulator really counts. Using the warps helps thoughGameMasterGuy wrote:I think BT would be much more bearable if getting a game over sent you back to the beginning of the level, or at least map (each map contains three levels for those that don't know) when you got a game over. Getting deep into the game only to get a game over is massively disappointing and frustrating.
I'm so glad 16-bit games starting focusing more on password systems to keep your progress. Did that start with the Castlevania series? I don't remember
I always felt that Battletoads was an excellent game completely marred by the fact that it did not have a password system. It controls very well, the levels are varied, the graphics were excellent at the time it was released, but - when almost no one can get past the third level - most people do not get to appreciate (much less enjoy) the game. Some of the later levels are really amazing, but only the most dedicated players ever got to see them. If the game had a password system, I would consider it one of the very best games on the NES.
Back on topic...
I have never been able to get through any Metal Slug game with limited continues...the way the game controls, I simply cannot dodge the enemy fire.

That just brought back my painful memories of trying to finish Mega Man 8. Jokes aside, I actually passed that one before but the last fight with Wily was excruciating!

Re: Things you've failed at doing in video games for years
I've been trying for years to beat Metal Slug X on less than a dollar.
I can't play manic shmups. I love them, but the only shmup I've ever been any good at was Cho Ren Sha 68k (got second place high score over on the somethingawful forums a few years back). I wish I was good at shmups
I also suck at platformers and so there are very few I have ever ever beaten. I just suck at timing jumps and stuff so I wind up dying every time...

Re: Things you've failed at doing in video games for years
Are you guys talking about the PS1 or Saturn version of Mega Man 8? I never got to Wily stages on the PS1 version, I quit playing before that. But I did kill all the robot masters and to me MM8 felt like the worst and easiest Mega Man game out of the bunch (1-10). I think I killed pretty much every robot master with out any tactics whatsoever, some weapons were really OP, had way too much ammo and I think ammo even replenished after death? From what I recall, it was technically unimpressive (didnt look any better than 7 or X which were a SNES titles), all the stages looked too cutsey and toy like and the music was just very bland and boring when compared to earlier MM titles. And there was also horrible voice acting. It felt almost like a kiddy game to me (I love cartooney platformers and mega man games, mind you!).
Should I give Mega Man 8 another try? I would like to give the title the benefit of the doubt (my own memory in this case), but I do recall reading that many other Mega Man fans too felt that 8 was the lamest and worst title in the classic series.
On the topic, I have got to say getting emeralds in Sonic games! Glad to see that Im not the only one with this problem

I can get the emeralds in almost all Sonic games... but the last three in Sonic 2 always screw me over.

I'd be proud of that, actually. The only Sonic game I can get all the emeralds in is Sonic the Hedgehog 1, and it doesn't even do anything cool except give you a different ending...no Super-Saiyan Sonic.GameMasterGuy wrote:I can get the emeralds in almost all Sonic games... but the last three in Sonic 2 always screw me over.
