It finally came but...

Post by Kevman »

So my Sega Genesis Version 1 came in the mail today. The condition of the box was so-so. Pieces were coming off here and there. The plastic part inside which holds all the system and acessories in the box is a little bent too. The system kind of smells like tabacco. Maybe I can wash it or something.

I'm definetly picky about games and their condition. Anybody know maybe ways I can fix these problems I have right now?

give it a good wash with a soft, lint free cloth and isopropyl alcohol and see if that helps at all. also, if you have canned or compressed air, blow it out first (like unscrew it and blast everything out). also clean out the connectors and im sure youll be fine.

I recommend using a Q-tip with alcohol for the pins. Be carefull how much alcohol you use on the thing. A little bit goes a long way. If the outside cleaning doesn't take the smell away, try using a can of spray smell-good like fabreeze up close and then wiping the condesation off with a soft rag.

If you are the perfectionist, strip the housing down to plastic, and wash it in the sink, using a toothbrush for the cracks/crevasses. While it is out, you can thoroughly dust the inside and clean the contacts.

Crack that thing open and pull out the electronics, buy a lot of legos, and build a lego case for it.

I've actually seen that very thing done with an NES before. It was featured on Lik-Sang back before Sony sued them out of existence.

Yeah, I've seen people do it before. At least one NES, and one of those mini-ITX or micro-ITX PC boards. I should do it to one of my consoles some time.

That sucks. The inside of the console will probably be yellow with Tobacco.
