I think, after all that Dragon Blaze, you are gonna blow this game away.

The bosses are where I usually die, and I did not know that you could drop level 3 bombs on them and kill them in like 9 seconds. I am hoping to reach stage 6 tonight.

Feels like a 1cc is totally obtainable in this one.

I'm the only one that's allowed to be scared. You're all shmup gods compared to me -- you're just in Capcom territory is all  I'll be weak on the modern bullet hell games, no way I'm gonna top those scores on Dragon Blaze.

Yes. Like I said, biggest secret in the game. Now a bit of story time.

I first got into this game in 2001 on Final Burn because I'd spend my summers in NJ playing the heck out of 19XX. The instruction cards said you could charge bombs, and I loved that feature.

Now I pass my 10 years of knowledge and wisdom onto you. You'll probably be the first to 1cc this. Stage 7 is freaking EASY.

REMEMBER: when holding down bomb button to start the meter, it acts as a shot cancel, so wait to use them until then.

I'll pass more techniques to all of you because I can --

Stage 1/Ayako Special -- after tanks hold bomb button and also have lock on ready for back left wing section. Lock on until Level 3 bomb kicks in, then lock on to front middle shooting all the way. 9 to 10 seconds for S rank and base 50K.

Stage 2/Raimei -- as soon as back side of ship is on screen, get a bomb charge ready. As the ship comes down, Level 3 mass explosion should kick in. At this time, you should be at the front of ship. Get another Level 3 ready, and finish off middle tower with lock on shots. 40 - 45 seconds (my range) should nail you an A rank and base 10k.

Stage 3/Karbert Armor -- best case scenario, 2-3 bombs in reserve. Start charging and locking on whatever you can right away. If the bomb meter reads Level 3 and it's not all the way over, you can release it as such and get a Level 3 explosion. 2 bombs takes out the front and sides, all you have left is the bullet hell beacon, and lock on shots and your final bomb should finish it off. REMEMBER TO TAKE OUT THE 2 BACK PODS so you don't waste time thinking the boss is finished. Again, around 40 seconds should get you an A rank.

Stage 4/Grantz -- Surprisingly wasn't too bad. Need 2 L3 bombs at most, one for each side. Lock on and LOCK ON again! As for those pods, I noticed they dropped medals, but I didn't pay too much attention to them for they only serve as a distraction. Less than a minute gets S rank, and over a minute to about 1'30" is A rank.

Finally, grab as many extra bombs as you can. In my latest run, I did not lose a life until just before Karbert Armor, and it was a blessing in disguise. I sacrificed medal accumulation for 3 fresh bombs.

Can't you tell I sorta like this game? :) Awesome graphics and sound courtesy of CPS-2! I love the Stage 3 theme. Yes, Sancho Pedro is one badass boss name. Maybe I should have used that for my forum name? No, but my name is THE game.

:?

I mean :?

mjmjr25 - 688,800 - Stage 3 - Lightning - Level 9 - Arcade

Not even taking a pic of that mess.

It takes me darn near 3 minutes to kill that 2nd boss - and that is with using 3 charge bombs...maybe i'm bombing too early?

It's odd - nothing in this game feels "difficult" and yet 4 runs and I still haven't seen stage 4. I'll give this some much needed love this weekend.

On a side note - the cut-scene screen after the first level is absolutely gorgeous. The shadow of the sun on that still photo - just beautiful.

The only scoring trick I found was the medal spewing ship mid-way through stage 2 on the right side of the screen - haven't hit the others that EE pointed out, but...I will

Good job and good score. And I thought 800K was remarkable at first

The game is amazing in its perfect difficulty and graphics and presentation. It's always been a favorite. The ending is really sweet too if you ever feel like playing through to the end. I love those boss clear screens.

I typically do not like to credit feed through a game unless I am absolutely positive a 1cc will never happen. I have to think this is a pretty reasonable 1cc, but...I have said that before.

Try sitting on top of the turrets to take them down fast on that stage 2 boss.

Icarus has a replay of this game on youtube, and its nuts. He is S-Ranking the bosses with no bombs used. Don't want to link it in case people don't want to see it, but if you youtube "19xx s rank", youll find it.

Gotta eat, and then I will be all over this.

Well - I just realized I was missing something. I was charging my bombs and releasing once the meter was full. I didn't realize you can charge it up to 3x strength. That took care of the 2nd boss in about 20 seconds.

Now, I know EE said the speed bonus to kill bosses is huge - but isn't the "saved bomb" bonus potentially worth a lot as well?

I think I got 15K (3,000 x rank 5 multiplier) for each saved bomb on the first boss - saved 2 bombs, so a bonus of 30K total, despite a "slow kill".

Yeah, you will get more points if you can S Rank the boss without bombing, but it is really hard. However, you get more points bombing and getting S rank, than not bombing and getting A, since the multiplier difference is so large between A (10k x medals, lives, and bombs), or S (50k x Medals, lives, and bombs)

Geeze E.E, you made me work for this one!

Image

Dunpeal2064 - 3,946,200 - Stage 5 (Boss) - Lightning - Level 18 - Arcade

Got an s rank kill on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th bosses.

my first time getting to the stage 5 boss, so I did not know what was going to happen. Wasted 2 bombs waiting for the "boss" to attach to the real boss, and got hit by a purple lazer that was pretty much un-dodgeable without knowing it was going to be there.

Pretty happy with this score for now though, this game really punishes mistakes, I was restarting a lot.

Saved bombs are 3000 X bomb. S rank is a base 50k. That's entirely up to you -- but I would rather get that base score with as few bombs used as possible.

NEAR 4 MILLION ON STAGE 5? I said work and I knew you had it in you, but geez  Nice job on the Stage 1 Perfect though. 5 ranks is handy to start. I can get Perfect on Stage 3 and I have before. More ranks is more multiplier. See what those S Ranks do?

How did you get the Stage 3 S rank? I would need to be 10-15 seconds faster to reach that point. Grantz on Stage 4 is attainable.

Thank you for inspiring me to do my very best -- it may not be 4 mil material without a few plays, but I'm sure I can top 2.5 mil next play, and that's my short - term goal, when I get another chance. Gradius Galaxies should be here Thursday
