I'm curious how we know Sturmwind is amazing - as it still hasn't shipped?
Also...it's a shooter (see thread title).
Not sure if i'm repeating or not - the best (imo) version of Crazy Taxi was on Dreamcast.
Cosmic Smash, as mentioned, is an excellent game w/o any real comparables from that generation.
Royal Rumble is real good fun.
Gauntlet Legends is a great great game, though I preferred the updated GCN version to the DC and 64 versions.
You won't go wrong w/just about anything on DC. Good luck.
What are the best Dreamcast games that AREN'T shooters?
Re: What are the best Dreamcast games that AREN'T shooters?
I know a lot of people who really enjoy Sonic Adventure who would not say the superior version is on the GC. One major reason being the frame rate issues.3DSStrider wrote:Sonic Adventure has Sonic DX on GC, KoF 99 has KoF 98: UM on PS2, DoA 2 has DoA 2: Ultimate, etc.KDub wrote:For example?
Also be aware that if something is superior is subjective and that doesn't fault the other version. A good game on a system is still a good game.
Re: What are the best Dreamcast games that AREN'T shooters?
I know I am probably one of the few people who feel this way but for some reason, I am not exactly a big fan of the adventure games. I have SADX for Pc(legit CD rom not steam or downloaded) and the first time I played it i liked it, but the more i played it the more I would dislike it and found it harder to play through it multiple times.
As for SA2, I feel like that game is even worse. To me at least, the controls felt slippery, the camera sucked and the levels just were not that fun to play(except shadows and knuckles but ONLY for the cheesy raps). SA2 is often called the best 3D sonic and one of the best games in the series, unfortunately I just don't see it.
They may have been decent games when they came out but they certainly have not aged too well...
my favorite sonic was and will remain Sonic CD followed by sonic 3 and sonic rush, then sonic 2.

By frame rate issues you mean the fact that it runs at 60 fps and the original doesn't?KDub wrote:I know a lot of people who really enjoy Sonic Adventure who would not say the superior version is on the GC. Some of these have been mentioned already, some not (For any of the repeats you can consider it a second vote!). These are just some that I really enjoy. Make sure to check out videos if you'd be interested or not.
Jet Grind Radio
Power Stone 1 and 2
Record of Lodoss War
Virtual On (needs the sticks to be really nice)
Zombie Revenge (most people don't like it. But I do.)
Chu Chu Rocket
Crazy Taxi 1 and 2
Dead or Alive 2 (I actually feel like this version is better than the PS2 one)
Elemental Gimmick Gear (E.G.G.) VERY overlooked.
Heavy Metal Geomatrix (A movie tie in no less. But very cool.)
Gauntlet Legends (So much fun)
D2
Shenmue 1 and 2
Sonic Adventure (I don't really care for 2)
Evolution (A semi-average jRPG, kinda reminiscent of Wild Arms to me, there is a part 2, but I've never played it ... I think there's a part 3 on GameCube too)
Super Magnetic Neo (someone mentioned it in the platformer thread)
Bangai-O (Ok, so it's sort of a shooter ... but not ... I wouldn't personally consider it one)
Grandia 2 (duh)
Soulcalibur
Omikron: The Nomad Soul (Quantic Dream's first game. Resident Evil-ish, sort of free roaming survival horror style game with heavy plot)
Daytona USA 2001
House of the Dead 2
Death Crimson OX
Rush Rush Rally Racing
This is a game you'll have to download as it was never actually released. It's AM2s last game: Propeller Arena. It's awesome! It's basically a plane dog fighting game. Track it down, download it, and check it out. Warhawk's got nothing on this game :p

They're found fairly cheap online.ExedExes wrote:Typing of the Dead is nice if you can snag a keyboard
Definitely! It would be very helpful if there were some list of superior versions, pros and cons of each, etc.sabrage wrote:I'd prefer people at least mention the superior versions.

I cant believe no ones mentioned MSR: Metropolis Street Racer!
The forerunner to the Project Gotham Racing series, amazing game, great feeling, graphics and music.
Full of character, one of the best DC games, IMO.
Le Manns 24hour also very good, and Vanishing Point.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Best game story and my favorite DC game.
