Synthesizer on DS
You guys know about the Korg DS 10? Its a music making program on the DS. Does anyone know where you can find it? Or others like it?

I was going to post about it when I heard about it a couple months ago, mainly because I wanted to rant against it. Anyway, my feelings have changed somewhat since then.
Releases July 25 at Play-asia...although I don't know how much Japanese you need to play it, and I also don't know if there will be a localized version.

I've heard of homebrew synths, especially NitroTracker, but I've not looked up anything on them. One main difference, obviously, is that the official Korg one is "official"...meaning it is actually based on a small but great Korg synth MS-10. The NitroTracker, however, does include MIDI support (which doesn't exist for the DS-10)...other than that I don't know anything about it.
As for my rant against this application, I'll keep my mouth shut.

It will definitely have a worldwide release, with appropriate language adjustments. I hadn't seen this announcement until today, although it is several months old. Straight from the developer's blog:

THe DS-10 is a real virtual synth and less of a sample tracker. Most of what I've seen in homebrew is unstable trackers that call up low resolution samples and parts. This thing actually is creating synthesis on the fly even the drum are created from scratch using oscilators.
I've got 2 on order as I want to mix between my two DS using my DJ mixer. I produce music for a living and two of these seems like a really fun way to "play" tekno instead of trying to produce all the time. Jamming 12 drum parts and 4 synths between the 2 should be plenty interesting. Lots of questions about how sync is managed and how songs are loaded/ backed up. Hopefully it will work well for continuous loading and mixing.

I didn't realize NitroTracker wasn't an actual synth and was basically just a bunch of samples. Why do I listen to people without checking it out myself?
On another note, [I'm not trying to be rude here] why would anyone who seriously uses synths want one of these instead of a traditional one with MIDI support, more options, more memory and ease of connecting and sharing with a computer? Other than the price and ultra-portability, I guess.

No, I just did a little investigation after reading gradualmeltdown's comment above. What I had heard before was that Nitrotracker is a synth, but a synth is something that creates its own sounds....Nitrotracker is more of a sequencer, I guess. Then again, I'm a dinosaur in the music business (being a concert pianist) and I'm not really hip to the electronic trends.bluelazergun wrote:Did you download nitrotracker?
