Madcatz fight stick question

Post by jay_red »

I got the urge to do some more modding to my TvC wii fight stick, this time taking the Wii out of it completely. I dont ever use the Wii function that I put the effort into keeping lol. So I want to pad hack a PSone controller into it so I can use the multitude of controller converters to keep the clutter down, and have one consistent stick for my consoles.

My question is can I wire the buttons up straight from this wiring harness off of the board that they plug into? And if I can, is there a button pinout of which go where? There are 11 wires total coming off of the 2 harnesses, which would be perfect seeing as it covers the 8 push buttons, and the start and select, and 1 for the ground.

I figured the red stripe was for the ground, as it was the only wire different than the others, but then I saw that there was another red stripe on the other harness, so I am not sure now.

If i cant use this harness, its no big deal and I will just daisy chain the ground from the buttons and be off with it, but if I can use this then it would make things a bit easier.

If I recall correctly, the purply-red wire in the cable with more wires is the ground. If you have a multimeter/continuity tester you should be able to check by sticking a small sliver of wire into the connector and testing from that to the button prongs.

EDIT: You can do the same to find out which button goes to which wire.

Also, a shameless plug for my Universal Arcade Stick guide: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 52&t=36641

Might find some interesting ideas there.

@ Jay - We are literally EXACT SAME THOUGHT! But don't gut it, add toggle switches! I have two of the Arcade Sticks, I already did a simple mod on mine to enable a quick select as a Duel Stick for Geometry Wars. A simple double pole toggle switch handled this. I plan on throwing a few more quad pole toggle switches to add different options and maintain a Wii Classic Control connection.

Tatsunko Capcom Stage 1
Enable one of the Action buttons to toggle Left or Right joystick. (DONE!)

Tatsunko Capcom Stage 2
Jump off Wii Remote PCB to play NES Pad style Wii games. Maintain Remote for use in Metroid Other M.

Tatsunko Capcom Stage 3
Add a PS1 Controller inside and jump the PCB pads. Cable out for both PS1 and Wii Classic hookup.

I popped a Wii Remote apart, looks like a middle layer in the PCB traces, posted at my Wii Thread. I'll post as I continue the mod on mine.

How would I go about wiring in a PSX pad while keeping the Wii functionality?

Its just a matter of adding toggle switches to send each wire from the buttons and joystick switches to either the PS1 PCB or to the original Madcatz Arcade PCB. You can get a Quad switch to handle four connections at once so three or four switches is all that will be needed. Another way to "Switch" is to use a cable connection with multiple jacks right on the Arcade Stick Base. I used an IDE cable which has forty wires to "Select" between a PC Keyboard, Atari 2600 and PS1 on my Zaxxon Arcade Stick mod.

Stage 1 is done, Stage 2 and 3 are being looked at. After checking my Tatsunko Mod Stage 1 link, go to the latest post at that Wii Thread. When I do each stage, I'll post another Reply Guide.

Here is where I incorporated an IDE Cable to select systems internally. Second Reply in the link below.
