Re: Which Version Is Best?
I'm trying to think about Disgaea in general. The way I understand it is these are like 100 hour games. So honestly, one of them will last me forever. I guess my question is which of the four should I really get into? The first maybe since it's the first? The fourth because it's the newest? What say you?
Re: Which Version Is Best?
The first and second are more closely related to each other - so if you play either of those, I'd say go with the first and see if you have enough of an appetite to move on to the second.
I tried the third and did not like it. I know nothing about the fourth.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: Which Version Is Best?
I *think* if I went with the first, I'd go with the PSP version as it seems like something to play on a portable and in bursts. If I went with a newer one, I guess I'd look 4 on PS3 to see how great those sprites look in HD and have access to whatever whacky DLC NISA might add. Hmm.
Re: Which Version Is Best?
I love the Disgaea series but I wish it was not designed in such a way that only people with unlimited amounts of time can really get into it. The themes, characters, and setting are amazing - but I have too much crap to do to dedicate myself.
My recommendations:
Disgaea 1: PSP (Usually would not recommend a portable but the original has aged)
Disgaea 2: PS2 (It supports component; the PS2 version of the first did not)

Exactly how I feel. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a game that much, and then thought "I'm never going to play this game or its sequels ever"Flake wrote:I love the Disgaea series but I wish it was not designed in such a way that only people with unlimited amounts of time can really get into it. You guys may already know this, but the Disgaea games are very breakable (or at least, the first two were) by monster ally farming.dunpeal2064 wrote:Exactly how I feel. So, I'm trying to expand my PSP RPG collection and I've noticed there are a lot of remakes for the system. The games I'm the most curious about are the Star Ocean 1 & 2 remakes, FFT War of the Lions, Lunar Silver Star Harmony, and Valkyrie Profile Lenneth. Are these versions reasonably superior/different enough to their predecessors to be worth playing on the tiny PSP screen?

Silver Star Harmony is incredible on the PSP! I cannot recommend it enough.Dylan wrote:So, I'm trying to expand my PSP RPG collection and I've noticed there are a lot of remakes for the system. I have a friend at work who routinely puts 2 - 3 hundred hours into each of them. The 4th is my favorite on big consoles and the 1st is my favorite on the PSP. You will get easily your moneys worth with them. Also, while technically you could probably play them forever since *every * item in the game is its own dungeon and can be individually levelled up to 99, you *can* "beat" the main story line, etc. etc.noiseredux wrote:I'm trying to think about Disgaea in general. I like playing on the PSP because of the bite sized nature of the missions and the suspend feature
If you like SRPG's with very wacky humor and batshit crazy mechanics, you will enjoy them!
