Why would they release it? They are in no hurry given Xbox's sales and market position, they can wait until the Wii U is released first.

This.

Especially when Microsoft is selling nearly 500,000 units per month in the US alone.

I don't know what you guys are talking about regarding sales. The Xbox 360 is still almost 30 million units sold behind the Wii, 10 million units behind the PSP, and the PS3 is only a few million sales units behind the 360.

I fail to see how the 360 has dominated in any gaming market. America is the only place it does well because of its heavy marketing with almost every major fast food restaurant, Pepsi Co. and other stupid places like The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Ellen Degeneres Show and The Gap - for Kinect w/Dance Central.

Microsoft obviously spent WAY MORE money marketing the system and repairing all the early faulty models than they made money off it! And outside of North America, the 360 hasn't done shit! They need to make some major changes next gen if they plan to thrive in this business, especially with things like iOS gaming on the rise.

Yeah I was kinda confused on how essentially being 3rd in a market of 3 is a good market position to not have new hardware.

I was thinking the same thing. People are excited to have their existing hardware become obsolete? This isn't the 8-bit days when new hardware would bring a massive jump in the video gaming experience. The next Xbox will be just like the existing one, just with faster hardware.

I honestly don't think this upcoming generation is going to be a big jump. People still think that graphics need 1000 more polygons and more HD and shit. I was happy with Gamecube graphics as high level. The only thing that brings the really great games is optimization of the available machine...

Also, I wonder how well Nintendo will do this generation. I'm honestly not sure how well the Wii U will sell, as many may not know how it is different from a Wii. If Nintendo plays their cards right, pull the exclusives, and allow the publishers and developers a high amount of freedom, I can see this pulling a PS2. But we'll see. Until I see Gears of War,God of War or DOA:Beach Volleyball level violence and sexuality, I'm not sure if they are willing to stretch enough to pull the full audience.

I think the idea is that 360 is outselling Wii / PS3 consoles currently and adding new (paying) members to XBLA at very nice rate, considering how long it has been around.

In fact, 360 has had the most console sales for 19 straight months, as July totals were just announced...so yeah, nearly 2 years on top would quantify as "dominating".

I don't think that's quite true. 360s are selling like hot cakes here in the UK. Pretty much everyone I speak to, into gaming, has one over the PS3.
