As someone who has worked in the film industry, helping convert 2D films to 3D, playing this (as my first stereo 3D game) just blows my mind because it's being rendered out in real-time. The various objects play at the correct depth, the lighting seems to cast a very natural glow to everything, and the "hard lines" of the characters and their environment don't seem to exist. SotC's 3D definitely shines over ICO's, simply because the environment is vast and wide - it can really convey a sense of depth.
What do you need hardware wise to make this happen?

The newer HDTVs that are out now have native 3D support (not sure if it is possible to output 3D images on previous HDTVs). All you need is 3DHDTV, PS3 and a game that supports stereo 3D. Our set is actually able to convert 2D images to 3D, though it's not entirely convincing compared to native 3D stuff.

Best Buy still has PS3 ICO-SOTC game for $24.99, looks like the sale price got extended.

For anyone who has tried the 3D Video enhancements, is that on a 3DHDTV that requires the glasses? Please post a screenshot of the 3D image.

Unless you have a 3D monitor and active-shutter glasses, a screen cap (both left and right eye images needed) is just going to be a blurry image.

* I managed to do 5 flips off Argo

Oct 12 - just beat both ICO and SotC again. Even after all these years, no other game has come close to the beautiful endings both these games provide. Ueda-san, where is my Last Guardian dang it!

After all the disheartening news in December about key people leaving Sony Development Studios, there is still hope for The last Guardian, Fumito Ueda still works at Sony as a Developer.

According to an official announcement, Yoshifusa Hayama, The Last Guardian's executive producer, has left Sony to work as creative director on a series of Facebook projects for British online games developer Bossa Studios.

In a statement received by Gamasutra on Monday, Sony confirmed that while the creator is no longer working as an employee, he is finishing the upcoming The Last Guardian on a contract basis, and is "committed to completing" the project.

The news of Ueda's departure follows similar news from last week, when The Last Guardian producer Yoshifusa Hayama announced his decision to leave Sony for social gaming company Bossa Studios.

I spoke with Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida at the DICE conference in Las Vegas yesterday, I asked him for an update on the situation.

1UP: Can you give us any update on The Last Guardian? Have you seen it recently?

SY: Oh yeah, yeah. I've been seeing it.

1UP: Is it still healthy and good?

SY: Well you know, there was a rumor that Fumito Ueda left the company or something like that.

1UP: That was confirmed, right?

SY: Well it's confirmed in terms of the status of his relation to the company -- he was an employee, and now he's working on a contract basis. You know, we discussed an arrangement so he could focus on the creative side. But his work and his presence on that team never changed, so it was just more a contractual rearrangement, and that was taken [by many] as "he left."

1UP: Does he still work in the office?

SY: Absolutely. Absolutely. He comes in every day, and he's probably one of the people who works the longest hours. The project has been making progress, but slow progress. So that's tough, but we haven't changed any focus. It's still a really important project and a vision we want to see realized, and Fumito's vision is really causing a very difficult challenge for the developers, so there's some scrapping and rebuilding -- iteration in the process. That's why [it's taking so long].

1UP: So back to your earlier comment, did he become a contractor so he could work on the creative side rather than the business side?

SY: It's a personal matter, so I can't really say.

1UP: Do you think he'll continue to work with Sony after The Last Guardian is finished?

SY: If this project goes well -- you know, fingers crossed -- we've worked with him for a long time so yeah I certainly hope we can maintain a relationship.

Overview: Shadow of the Colossus ~ Demo

The thing I love most about Shadow of the Colossus is its sense of exploration. Climbing through ancient ruins, navigating your horse over dangerous cliffs, and swimming in lakes where hidden horrors may lurk... what a great atmosphere this game has! However, would you like to see what the game looked like in an earlier form filled with bugs, glitches, and the like? Of course you would!

If you manage to hunt down a particular demo disc you can play the E3 demo of the game. It only features a limited area to explore and one colossus to fight but that won't stop you if you want to explore what isn't meant to be seen.

The picture you see above is a demo disc that was mailed with the Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine; Issue 97. (Disc serial number: SCUS 97449). This disc contains the demo you need to explore the glitchiest, bug-ridden version of Shadow that you'll probably ever play. (I believe there are a couple other demo discs that contain this demo as well but I cannot remember what they are.)

The Demo's Contents

The whole point of the demo is to leave the shrine, head south, and defeat the first colossus. After that the demo will end.

But why do that when you can climb the shrine? Climb the shrine? Yes!
To reach the top of the shrine in the retail release you would normally have to either A) exploit a climbing glitch (present in the demo) or B) play the game enough until your stamina goes into god-status.

The climbing glitch allows you to climb as high as you want without losing any stamina. In order to achieve this you must constantly do climbing-jumps in the diagonal directions (Up-right; Up-left). Once you figure out this trick you can get to the garden.

Well, what's up there?

If you made it to the top... congratulations! You now get to explore the game in its unfinished state. The developers probably assumed you weren't going to climb up there with such a small stamina bar but thanks to the climbing glitch you can view the garden in its incomplete state.

Things of notable interest

I'm not going to go into great detail as you can do a youtube search of "Shadow of the Colossus Demo Secrets" (or other similar searches) and see everything but I'll mention a few things.

1) Incomplete Areas- Graphically and physically this entire area is unstable. The water canal is nothing but a glitchy hole. The textures are not quite right. You can fall through some walls. If you want to explore this area you'll probably end up having to reset quite often due to falling/death. That means another climb up the shrine.

2) Secret Areas- Through a couple walls you can access secret areas. Do that youtube search and see what I mean.

3) A decapitated character model- I'm not joking. This thing is creepy. It has no physical presence so you can just walk right through it. What is it doing here?? Is it a sick joke from the developers?

Well that's pretty much an overview of the Demo. I'll explore the demo some more and post my findings/glitches.

 Nice Find and thankyou for the insight! Finally, I can see what is on top of the bridge! Okay now I am interested, maybe there are unknown Action Replay codes to use that Climbing Glitch and see this on the full version? The decapitated girl tied up to the posts has an uncanny resemblance to the opening shots in Wii Lost Shadow. A game not related but has been compared to the Team Ico games.

Looking forward to read anything else you might discover.:D

The retail version doesn't have any of those bugs/glitches up in the garden. They cleaned up the top of the shrine so no falling through floors or decapitated character models.

I remember playing that demo! I got it from the exact issue of PS magazine it was included in too. Probably one of the only demos I remember playing constantly until the actual game came out. Unfortunately I don't know if I still have it now or not.

That demo is the reason I bought the game. I had to buy this copy of the demo though. I think I threw my old one away.
