Technology giant says "there will be no talk" of new Xbox hardware at this summer's trade show or in the near future, 2012 will be "all about Xbox 360."

"While we appreciate all the interest in our long-range plans for the future, we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon," a Microsoft representative told GameSpot in a statement first sent to Game Informer.

Microsoft said 2012 will be "all about Xbox 360." So far, the year has been strong for Microsoft and the console. Last week, the company reported it sold 426,000 Xbox 360 units in February, making it the top-selling home console for the 14th straight month.

As for the next Xbox, speculation has run wild as to its form, capabilities, release date, and price. The latest rumors say the Xbox 360 successor could ditch a disc drive, boast a tablet controller, block used games, and cost as much as $500.

It has also been suggested that the next Xbox is currently in development under the code name Durango. This speculation was stoked last month when a Crytek developer reportedly tweeted about attending a Durango developers summit in London.

With the way 360 sales are going, they would be silly to announce a new console this year. The Wii U won't be a threat to their market, so smooth sailing until Sony is ready to move forward.

So I'm the only one bummed by this news? I love seeing new hardware and new gaming capabilities that go with it. I always get excited by console launch news.

I'm glad that this generation is going to be extra long. 5 years just isn't enough for me, especially with how much hardware costs anymore and with how unimpressive hardware improvements have been lately.

I think we might see some teaser game footage or something, as it is well documented that "Project Durango" is now gearing up...this is widely believed to be the next Xbox.

So there's something in the works, it just remains to be seen if/when it finally comes together Maybe the WiiU will be the last console ever, too. I'd guess part of the delay is waiting for Unreal Engine 4 to wrap up and for hardware prices for what is needd to run it come down to a reasonable level. It does seem weird to say after six years, but it is probably still too early.
