Which version is more valuable?

I see a lot of older games that come in both a regular release version and a "Player's Choice"/"Greatest Hits"/etc version. I know I personally prefer the "Greatest Hits" or whatever version if I have a choice, but which one is more commonly sought for collections and worth more?

I know that some people don't like to have greatest hits versions unless it has bonus content or whatever. I guess maybe it has to do with wanting a collection that looks uniform, for example a shelf full of black label ps2 games. I personally don't really care. As for which is worth more, I would guess the original release although there may be exceptions.

Yeah, original release is worth more 99% of the time.

Original release, though the difference is most pronounced for games who's packaging is grossly different.

I prefer the original.. I use to print out an original insert if it was a greatest hits.. but it looks more ghetto like that so i just leave it as it is now

Usually Originals or first runs tend to be perceived more valuable, I collect based on content. PS2 Grand Theft San Andreas, for example the first run with the M+ rating has the coffee extra. On the other hand, PS2 Silent Hill 2 Greatest Hits is the one to get. Any seller that knows this will auction the Greatest Hits version it at a much higher price.

I was just recently trying to work out if I really needed to drop extra cash on the original General Chaos for Mega Drive:

When it worked out a bit cheaper to get this odd looking version:


I went with #2 both for cost and because it has some weird appeal of its own, the spine won't look like any of the other games on my shelf. It needs to be boxed because those horrible oversized EA cartridges should be hidden from sight. I usually prefer the original ones for my collection, but I'm no stickler for it.
