Using a Playstation 3 controller with MAME OSX

Post by yokozuna »

Has anybody had any luck with this?

I downloaded a driver and have tried setting the buttons in GamePad Companion, but am having no luck.

Also, I've heard the 360 controller works, but if I have a USB wireless adapter, will I be able to play multiplayer.

I've used the Virtua Stick High Grade without any problem, although I don't know if the VSHG is any different from a normal PS3 controller. No drivers; I just plugged it in and played.

I don't know about multiplayer with 360 controllers, but they certainly work by themselves. I don't think you should have any problem.

Is there a way to map the buttons? It automatically assigns them, but sometimes they just dont map out right?

I got the wireless 360 controllers working using the wireless USB receiver and a driver from tattiebogle.com. Still no luck with PS3, but this is great.

You can map the buttons individually by hitting tab and choosing Input for this game (or something like that). Again, that didn't work for the PS3 controller, but it did recognize it.

I'm using a logitech ps2-ish controller with an excellent d-pad, had to down load a control center thingy to work with mac. On my inpupts tab there is no button mapping feature. It's version 0.124....it's the newest version i know of. Is there something I'm missing?

I'm surprised the PS3 controller didn't work, since the VSHG is a PS3 controller except without analog sticks...it has all the other buttons. I DID however have a problem with the Hori Xbox 360 stick...MAME OSX refused to recognize the trigger buttons. No amount of drivers seemed to help.

What I believe we decided in other threads when I was having problems is that MAME OSX overrides pretty well everything.

For ott0bot, I have version 0.124 as well. The input settings yokozuna is talking about is the menu you get from hitting tab during a game and going into the controls sub-menu. I'm surprised you needed the control center, because MAME seems to recognize any controller I put in (I don't have that controller you have, though).

The problem is that even with Joy2key or anything else, MAME overrides the settings. If it can't be changed through the controls sub-menu in MAME (by highlighting, hitting enter, pushing the desired button to change), then I think you're out of luck.

I would like to get a Dreamcast adapter and use it to play but I'm not sure if it will work with the MAC. Did you ever have any luck getting your 360 Hori Arcade Stick to work correctly with MAME OSX? And what games are effected by the trigger button problem? Are SNK Neo-Geo games fine since they only used the 4 buttons? Thanks, any help would be much appreciated.

PM sent; also SNK Neo Geo games work perfectly with the 360 stick, and the button layout is great. The two buttons out of the six that don't work are the medium and strong kicks in Capcom fighting games.
