SFxT Lag.

Here’s the thing – the sound is off, sometimes its on, sometimes it is not. When it is not, it can be frustrating – I don’t think this is connection related, it is netcode / server related.

As for gameplay lag – I’ve experienced none, both in random online matches and when I played Noise for almost an hour.

To note, my max available mbps is 1.5 (which is pretty poor to begin with).

When I used to be wireless – lag was horrible, to the point it was unplayable. If I had Netflix going on the wii, it was even worse.

Now I’m wired and my connects are immensely better, however now the wii is wireless and it went from no problem streaming Netflix or Nin-Wi-Fi to now Netflix is “constantly retrieving” and basically my kids no longer use the wii for Netflix unless dad runs the router back into that room to hook up the Ethernet (then it runs fine).

So, to doublecheck last night, after playing noise, I unplugged my cable, switched settings back to wireless, and went online for SFxT. Unplayable for me – complete lag, put the cable back in, reset settings, no problems at all. For me, it isn’t a question of, “I wonder if I have a better connect wired or wireless, or I wonder if Netflix or websurfing slows me down?” I mean, it’s just not up for debate, in my case.

I can understand how some might think there is gameplay lag from the perception of the sounds being off – however, if you turn your volume down completely, that perceived lag disappers – I did that as well as I initially thought gameplay was disjointed, it wasn’t, just the sound throwing me off.

I’m not saying this is great news and that we shouldn’t want the sound to be fixed, I’m saying, in my opinion, there is no gameplay lag issues on my end.

I do have a wife and I have no interest in whatever Mark is planning.

I have no doubt Netflix/wifi/etc. slowed it down for me, but my point is that this isn't the case for ANY OTHER GAME (regardless of genre, # of players, etc.). I don't have an ethernet cable or router anywhere near where my PS3s are located, and it isn't ever something I feel I need to hook up.

What is your mbps speed? If you are at like 7-12mbps or something - the differences could be so minimal you wouldn't be noticing on games like BBCS, etc. So, perhaps between minor errors in netcode AND a huge amount of players online AND running something else in the background, all of that in total is enough to create the lag, in your situation. Dunno.

I think this is something where no one is going to persuade the other side the issues aren't a big deal / are a huge deal.

I think from Brad's perspective, this is still one impressive game, doesn't care about DLC per se as long as the playing field is even for the guys he normally plays with (ie, not in tournaments or random online stuff), and for his purposes, the sound issues just aren't a big deal. I'm mostly in the same camp.

From others, like the7k, I completely understand where they are at as well and why this whole thing looks and feels like a hot mess. And he's right, profit and loss will determine if this is a misguided effort or the way of the future.

I think the gems confirmed from the start that this wasn't meant to be a tournament game anyway. And as far as the dlc thing, sure it's lousy, but they put out 3 versions of SF3 and 4... How many versions of 2. getting every penny they can out of a game is nothing new to capcom. So none of it shocks me. But like I said, bottom line is just that I'm getting a lot of hours of fun out of it.
The different versions of SF2,3,4,Alpha, etc., are not even remotely close to this gem fiasco.

Each time they updated SF2 or any other variation, everyone who bought that update was on equal footing. If it were Magic, it'd be like Magic releasing a new series, and the Starter pack contained EVERY CARD FROM THAT SERIES, and they didn't even bother releasing booster packs.

But now, with SFxT, not everyone who buys SFxT will be on equal footing. Everybody is going to have a different set of cards, some clearly superior to others. Some people are going to have an inherit, clear-cut, statistical advantage, and that advantage will be gained simply through throwing more money at Capcom.

And that should disgust every single person here, whether they are a tournament player, an online warrior or just someone who likes dicking around with friends.

And gems are just a portion of what wrong with the whole game. Stupid bugs, the scrubiest infinite loops ever, only 2 color pallates to mess around with, a completely gimped 360 port that they will not even bother to patch! For goodness sakes, the game can't even register diagonals properly on a 360 controller. How the fuck did this game even get thru the QA dept.

@7k... I can see your ire as tournament player. But I can't seem to make my self feel disgusted by a video game that I find fun to play.

I don't think anyone should attempt to ruin a game for themselves. I mean, all these statistics and faults aside, fun is the whole damn point.

However, I can understand why these issues would ruin the fun for some people, especially seeing as this is a competitive genre.

All that aside, I do need to try this game out, it looks pretty coo.

Hey, I thought it was fun.

Well, at least more fun than SSF4.

Still not letting Capcom get one cent out of me, though. Last thing I want is for Darkstalkers 4 to have this same sort of pay-to-win bullshit in it.

Indeed. Ability level comes into play too. Like a lot of the counter stops in shmups. I'm not even good enough to run into those issues in most shmups. But when and if I do get to such a level, it may ruin the fun for me.

The only thing I do not like about this game is that Capcom accidentally included Tekken characters instead of SNK fighters. An honest mistake, I am sure.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
