What the F---, man? You need to be called out and mocked, put in the cobra clutch, F---ed in the @$$ and be made humble so you don't do this again. Do not post about something unless you know for sure, for the love of Buddha.

The CDX is in NO way region free on the CD end of things. CDs are absolutely region-locked. The only way around it is to buy an expensive cart that allows you to play some/most CD games from other regions, or to install a region-free bios chip.

Sega CDX is:
CDs: NOT region-free
Carts: early ones are region-free, later ones are not. The change occurred sometime in 1993, between the Japanese MD release of SFII' and the US release of SFII:SCE.
Woah holy shit man, I made a mistake, all it required was a correction. I also said in the next sentence "I believe all CDs are region free, though I could be mistaken," i.e. I thought that was the case but wasn't sure. I suppose I should have fixed that first sentence, but whatever, I made a mistake, my bad. I suppose I got it mixed up, as I figured that lack of copy protection also meant region free.
My Want List!

Consoles: Sega Master System, NES Toploader, Genesis/32X, Sega CDX, SNES, 3DO FZ-1, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast, Sony PS2, Nintendo Gamecube, Xbox Halo Edition, Wii, PS3
Handhelds: Atari Lynx, Sega Nomad, Neo Geo Pocket Color, GBC (Atomic Purple, Pokemon Edition), GBA (Pink OG, Silver SP, Spongebob SP+), DS (Phat, iXL), 3DS, PSP (1000, Go)

I'm on that site, too!

It's okay, you have now been humbled I see. Hopefully your rear end is feeling better now. :)

Yes, Sega/Mega CD systems do not have copy protection. However, the BIOS chip on all systems is region specific. Directions on how to install a multibios chip are here: http://www.eidolons-inn.net/tiki-index. ... +Multibios.

Information about how to be put into the cobra clutch, f---ed in the @$$ and made humble is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K-wEUCCvE0.

I should mention that I have a split personality. Sometimes I think I am the Iron Sheik. You just happened to be the victim of that. I would apologize, but you did come close to ruining the hopes and dreams of many who were thinking of importing the wonderful Japanese Mega CD version of Earnest Evans in order to see the entire story they missed in the cart version on the Genesis.

Ditto. I'm gonna go with Breetai was being sarcastic...

I'd look at a cart option due to the CDX being a bit tricky to mod. Are you planning to do the region mod to _just_ play Earnest Evans?

Of course I was. I sent a PM, so hopefully there are no hard feelings.

The CD version of Earnest Evans is cool, but not really worth doing the mod just for that. In all honesty, there are not many JP Mega CD games that are worthwhile that didn't make it out of Japan. We got most of the good ones, fortunately.

Ironically, the Japanese Mega CD didn't get Snatcher. They got it on the an NEC computer system, MSX, PC Engine CD, Saturn and PS1, but not the Mega CD. I'm still trying to figure that one out!

That's OK for most games. But Sega CD has a similar issue to Saturn: Imports with large save files.

You of course can't place backup RAM cart and region bypass cart, into the same slot.
Lum fan.
