Eh, if you treat an old PC like an old console (no online, no installs) then it works just as well as "plug and play". The reason the current consoles are buggy is they are trying to do so much at once and a conflict will almost certainly arise.

Bugs are not more common in any platform. I know more NES bugs than I know PC bugs. Mario running backwards, pause-cheating in Megaman, graphical glitches are common and really, even arcades have bugs. For each XCOM, each console has it's own buggy game.
Newer games tend to be buggy because the code is more complex, deadlines are harsher and you can always patch it latter even if you don't.

Oh yeah, and there are those kinds of bugs too.
(Why do I still think of those as "glitches" and BSOD as bugs?)
