Review: Solatorobo: red the hunter

Post by weasels »

Hey all, weasels here with another smashing review: some of you may remember my review on tail concerto (http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 32&t=23515). in it, i revied the game as well as compare it to another favorite of mine: megaman legends. along with it i took reference to a game made by the same developers that was called the spirtual sequal, well it's out and i got it, and im proud and happy to say that it's not only a beautiful and enjoyable game, it's also contained in the SAME universe as tail concerto! so without further ado, i shall start my review on: SOLATOROBO: red the hunter!

Solatorobo is a game developed by the bandai namco division cyberconnect2 and publised by xseed (in the us). Solatorobo (or sky and robo) is at it's base an action adventure game. once again, the story is not so deep. you play as Red, a dog like creature who is a freelancer, living from job to job with his adopted cat sister. you live in the shepard republic which is more or less a state in the world of praire (from the first game). when you start the game you are on a mission to recover a mysterious object, that when taken starts a series of events that lead to you saving the world.

much is standard fare for the story, and it's nothing we haven't seen. what the game lacks in story is more than made up for with it's amazeingly beautiful, detailed, colorfull world. seriously the game looks fantastic and fits the world that was made in the original game, but then surpasses it in every way i can think of. the game is a mixture of flat sprites and 3d models, alot of it reminds me of really well done paper craft. while this may sound strange, everything blends together well and none of it feels out of place. along with this is bery little slowdown, everything moves and runs beautifully and there are times where im surprised so much is going on at one time and yet everything moves fluidly. there are times in a battle where there will be slowdown, but this happens only every so often and isn't an issue.

This game is by far one of my favorites of the season, after playing a while i came to the realization that this game is not only a gift to fans, but also a gift to cyberconnect2 themselves. they have tons of nods to the other game such as being able to catch runaway kittens and characters from tail concerto itself. It does have it's issues, like it being extreamly easy, and rather repeditive. it's a game that knows it's roots well and incorporates it while adding to the whole experience. For fans of the original game, i highly recomend this game. For people interested in a game that has a vividly striking world with some fun gameplay mechanics and great characters, i also recomend this game.

One of my main issues with this game is that it takes way too long for the game to really get good but otherwise it was a fairly enjoyable DS game.
