You're right about the final boss being easy, but I do like the design of the boss, and the idea that you are at the "heart" of the alien world.

Thinking back to when I was a kid, Contra may have been the first game I actually beat. I'm pretty sure it may have been.

Hi! After I saw the results from the voting and after reading many peoples comments I decided to make an article of what Contra game actually is the best one, Contra III: The Alien Wars for the SNES or Contra: Hard Corps. You will find the answer here:

well, nostalgia plays a big factor as well. Thats why I like contra 3 better than hard corps.

Hello there! I'm a new member at the forum of this great site so my first post will be about one of my favourite series.

My first impact with Contra was with Contra (aka Probotector as it was called in Europe) on Gameboy (my favourite console till now) when I was on elementary school which it took me ages to finish it.

The next one I played was Contra III (aka Super Probotector) on SNES when I was in high school which in my opinion is the best game of the series. The funny thing about when I played it in my village with my friends was that we also had there a Playstation with the super hits of the season (Tekken 3, Gran Turismo e.t.c.) but we prefered playing Contra III which we fishished at this summer we first played it. I tried to finish it on hard mode, too, but of course I didn't made it.

Unfortunately, the later Contra games for Playstation were so lame I didn't give them a try. Fortunately, Contra: Shattered Soldier for Playstation 2 made a great comeback to the point that it took a place as my second favourite game of the series after Contra III. Till now I didn't managed to finish it even with the Konami Code (the only Contra game where I tried this famous code) and cooperation with a friend of mine.

Years later I tried Contra I and Super Contra on MAME (which are hard as well and with limited credits  ), Contra 4 on DS (which I still play and I suck so much at it that I always lose on the boss of the second level), Contra ReBirth on Wii (which is the easiest of all and a likeable homage to the oldest games of the Series), Contra Hard Coprs on Mega Drive emulator (which I loved because it tooks elements from Gunstar Heroes that I love so much and it's the hardest game on the series even with auto-save on emulator) and Super Contra on my mobile phone (which is a very nice port of the original).

Contra forever (and without easy mode, of course)!!! 8)

You know what, I'll raise my hand with you. I picked up Super C a couple weeks ago and flubbed up the code too.

Played a lot of Contra at my friend's house back in 5th-6th grade. We beat it together with the code, which was a cool accomplishment for being 11 years old.
