Here is how God plays the second loop. He clears it without dying.

that's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever watched. I don't even know how it exists.

Like I said. Millionaires v Billionaires. That stuff is impressive, but don't let it dissuade you (or any of us) from doing well and enjoying this genre. It's like anything else where some folks are just insanely great at their niche - we can still be extremely good :)

I found it inspiring... it made me realize how to use the dragons more effectively. But I'm still only averaging around 170k.

yeah I'm stopping for tonight. Played for about an hour with Quad and Sonia, and it's always around 170k. What's pissing me off is I feel like I'm playing better, but my score isn't reflecting that. I'm using the dragon smarter, and I'm getting better (braver?) at grazing but dammit.

I'm wondering if my button-layout is partly at fault. I'm not sure it's the most ergonomic, and I feel like I'm stopping to think which button is which:

S - D
R - B

(Shot, Dragon, Rapid, Bomb)

It's odd on arcade too:

S - B - D

It feels like it should be:
S - D - B

I play w/my pointer and pinky, def takes some getting used to.

Hmmm. Well, it's really only a 3 button game. I don't see much need for the rapid shot button. But lets see here...

I play with a stick, but if I were playing on a controller, I would probably map everything but the main shot to trigger buttons, if possible. With a stick it's easy to do something like hold down the shot button and use another finger to press the bomb or dragon dash buttons. You can simulate that ease if you are able to do something like use L1 as bomb and R1 as dragon.

Or something like square for shoot, x for bomb, L1 for dragon, R1 for rapid. So many possibilities if the control configuration in the game allows it. In the end, just go with what is most comfortable for you. Some of my ideas with the control scheme would take a bit of practice to adjust to

Good luck!

Yesterday I just play with pointer on shot, middle on bomb, ring on dragon. seems fine to me. But I do agree that swapping bomb and dragon would make a little more sense.

the PS2 port is four buttons. I tend to use Rapid a lot and leave Shot for the charged attack.
I play with a stick,
me too. Always use a stick for shmups.

Ah, alright. I was thinking you played with a pad, but maybe that's just fighters. Assuming you have at least a 6 button stick I would recommend something like this.

- S - B - D
R - x - x -

8 button stick would be pretty much the same with 2 extra buttons on the right.

- S - B - D - x
R - x - x - x -

Thumb on rapid, pointer on shot, middle on bomb, ring on dragon. That would be the arcade controls but adding the rapid in a pretty convenient spot for your thumb.

Just an idea though. Do whatever works for you. :) But I definitely recommend setting up 4 button games on a stick with that layout. Meaning bottom left, top left, and top center (top center left on 8 button stick), top right (top center right on 8 button stick).
