PSOne Memory Cards

Post by BananaXX »

My brother lent me his copy of FFVII and bought me a copy of FF:T (my two childhood favorite PS1 games) recently. When I finally found my crappy Interactive memory card I found out that it no longer holds save data :(. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any 3rd party PS1 memory cards that can be had, new, on Amazon or something that will actually save / be trustworthy with my Final Fantasy saves. Or if someone has a Sony brand one for sale that'd be totally wizard too.

If you know where to look you can not only get 3rd party but original sony memory cards.

Hit up your fleamarket. PS1s are all over the place (maybe). You may find a memory card stuck on one. Ask the seller how much. I've gotten cards this way for about $3.00

They can be found.

A lot of people don't recommend you use third party memory cards for consoles, and I'm normally one of those people, but I thought I'd mention that I've had a PS1 Joytech (I believe it is) memory card for about 12 years now, and it still works like a charm with zero issues.

I own a few third party memory cards (for various systems) that haven't given me much trouble over the years as well, but as a whole, I only recommend picking up first party cards. They're not any easier or harder to get than third party cards, might as well play it safe.

some of these third party memory cards work just fine on PS ones.

But the story changes when on a ps2.

I have a few cards that dont work on ps2.

but they work fine on its original console.

Before you give up on the one you have, take a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol, and clean the contacts on the card. This has worked for me before, when I had a card that had sat around for years and build up some oxidization on the copper contacts.

If it's still dead, I would go and visit used game stores or maybe even hit up craigslist. The used game store here in town usually has about 15 - 20 of those cards, and about half of those are Sony brand.. usually about 3$ as mentioned. Good luck!

If you have a PS2 you could get a newer memory card that way and backup your PS1 saves to that. But you still will need a reliable PS1 memory card to reinstall the saves to play.Or find a way to backup your saves to a computer (Dex Drive I believe)?

Yeah I once had a third party one that didn't want to work on my ps2, it didn't even seem to recognize it, if I remember correctly. I got rid of it. haha

But Banana, if you happen to have a Play N Trade in your area, ask there. They'll probably have the cards behind the counter but more than likely they'll have like a million of them, and they'll only be a few bucks. I hope you find one. :)

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm going to try my local game store and see what they have tomorrow. I tried the whole cleaning the contacts on my current memory card but it didn't work for me :(.

Finally bought a Sony one, was $7.5 at my game store. A bit pricey in my opinion but I don't trust the ones at flea markets plus I havent any clue where the good flea markets are relative to me. Thanks everyone.
