kids music box
Hey guys probably the wrong site to post somthing like this but, no other forum seems to have anything related to my problem. I want to make my own song, music that is, and program it to play in a kids toy like a teddy bear when the hand is pressed or what not. Any idea anyone. I want to make a special toy for my 1.5 yr. old son.

It's pretty popular among the Arduino community.fredthezombie wrote:Hey guys probably the wrong site to post somthing like this but, no other forum seems to have anything related to my problem. I subscribe to MAKE Magazine. I've seen a few articles on hacking toys and plushies. Search their blog and website for stuff.
Actually making the toy work with the song is completely different than making the song though. You'll have to compose it either electronically, or record it and then turn it into mp3, wav, etc...

The prebuilt materials are out there. Plenty of people use sound boards in props and things.
I also wouldn't be surprised if there is a company out there in the Internets that makes stuffed animals that you can load your own sound file into it.
It has been a long time since I've looked at getting a programmable sound board so I don't have any direct links. But with some searching you will find one.

I'm thinking a MP3 player that has a built in speaker or adding a small speaker that can plug into the Earbud jack. Wire up the play button contacts to the hidden hand switch. If the MP3 player has a memory card slot you can change the songs or add in family voices. Imagine the kid's look hearing Grandma's voice chiming out. Maybe the other hand switch could be wired to the track button contacts?

They make these. My brother had once. Basically it has a little recorder in it, you open it up, hit the record button, say a message (or record a song" put the box back in, and then squeeze it and it plays.
Couldn't tell you specifically where to get one.

This is what you need. http://www.scary-terry.com/dsr/dsr.htm
Build that, use a smaller speaker (there's loads of different ones on digikey, or whatever your component store of choice is) a thin 80ohm speaker should be sufficient for your needs. Something like this is perfect http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10722 for your needs.
