In some ways, a PS2 is easier because it doubles as movie-player (with convenient remote attachment for an extra $30) -- BTW does the PS2 auto-play DVDs? I know the controller can function as a remote, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that people still liked remotes.

Are we still talking PS2 figures? PS3/Wii figures? (I remember at one point, SNES units on Amazon were outselling the PS3...) PC gaming?

(If you count Tablet-games as part of PC gaming, then the growing slate/smartphone market is adding to the line, not detracting. Quite a few titles are retro games, indie games, Steam downloads, and the like. Those are a little harder to track.)

Consoles: Hook up cables, insert disc, press play on GUI.
PC: Install/update drivers (not supplied by game), install DRM client, download game using client (or use standalone installer), activate game online, configure in-game options, play. Definitely more "layers" to get a proper PC experience.

It's a good thing publishers opted for the F2P model, it's invigorated the PC market considerably (see previous post with source link)

Agree, I think this adds to my point on having a separate PC setup. You will have a laptop usually, a tv, then a separate PC setup for gaming. This doesn't affect you if you have a desktop PC workstation already, but most people own laptops now(can't remember last hearing of someone purchasing PC desktop). Last I checked laptops are not good for gaming(no CPU/GPU swap I guess)

console is, just plug it in TV and play. Maybe you can plug your desktop PC to the TV and configure it to play a joystick, but then again. Why get a PC if it will act like a console?

thank you, great some one realizes it. Some people think its just "swap" cpu/gpu, easy.

Whatever. Really the points are:

1) People are too stupid to follow screen instructions or notice that a round plug doesn't fit in a square one.
vs
2) People already do stuff harder than that.

No need to go in circles.

Thing is, the console experience has become a lot more like the PC one.

Consoles: Hook up cables, including internet connection, sync controller(s), insert disc, be informed that the terms and conditions of PSN have changed, read EULA, log back into PSN, be informed that a system update is available, download an install system update, finally navigate to the disc in XMB, click to play...or is that install? wait for game to copy, finally go back to launch it, be informed there's an update to the game, wait for that to download and install...maybe then you can finally play. That's not even getting into the extra steps if the game you want is on PSN.

The Wii and 360 both have variants of that experience too.

If that seems excessive, well, PC games rarely require driver updates, don't always need DRM clients/etc or activation, and so on.

I rarely go online for my 360 or Wii games, but I have to agree that online connectivity does add layers of complexity. The PS3's mandatory installs are pish, however. Shoehorning the BD standard hasn't been greatly beneficial.

I've been extensively playing PC games since 1995, but from my experience consoles have always been more convenient.

I'd say they could've waited another generation to put Blu-Ray into a game console. However, Sony knows that it increased Blu-Ray market penetration significantly, even if people didn't buy the console exclusively for that.

Some 360 games are coming in on more than one disc, and PC games seem to land in the 10-20gb range.

Definitely true. I wouldn't have a Blu-Ray player if it weren't for my PS3.

And people are the ones that drive sales, more sales=more investment in better games.

Why did Final Fantasy 7 was brought to PSX instead of 3do? or Even leave Nintendo in the first place? Its the hard truth.

But why are you so biased about PCs, looks like you are really upset about the fact that people find consoles easier than PCs. Its not personal

PC's are buggy. It's just a fact; you will run into a bug at some point. But now that consoles have the same problems...
