Ps2 Flip Top Case Problems SCPH39001 (Fat) [SOLVED]

Post by jod5000 »

Hey racketboy im in a hard spot right now im in the middle of setting up my ps2 flip top case but i think its the wrong one, i ordered a Flip Top Cover v4-7 off modchip.ca and on there site they said my model number would need this case http://www.modchip.ca/store/product.php ... 269&page=1.

But when i started i first got confused when the white disc went on the case, it didnt fit properly it was too small and when i tryed to get the memory card holders to fit in the case it didnt work either, no im stuck having no clue if its me or a wrong case.

How should i go about this? I was thinking if it is the wrong one then just see if i can exchange it for a v9-10 or get a refund then buy the v9-10. (I'll try uploading pictures soon, i think i use flickr or something right?)
EDIT: (Hopefully pics work, and what the.. at all the dust i couldnt see it before)

EDIT: Got it working, it turned out i left a metal piece with tape in the back of the original case and i put it back on the new case and it works, abeit with loud noises and it sounds like my discs are getting eaten.

Definitely need pics to figure this out. Sounds like an alignment issue for the memory cards. The white disc should pop in and fit loosely. Be careful, the Flip Hinge is fragile.

You can place pics directly here as an attachment. Just reduce the pics so the file size is 256k or less. If you use a photo sharing site, please post the pics directly linked displayed here so we don't have to load the entire photo site page.

EDIT
Pulled one of your pics. Quote my Reply to see what I did for a direct image.

The White Plastic looks fine, however your ribbon cable looks pinched. You might need to replace the flat cable. But first try to get everything aligned, the flat cable is for the eject and soft power switch. Maybe take a small clean paint brush and dust out the insides while you have it apart.

Hard to tell by the pics. I know there is a design change for the later V9 and V10 Fat models. If I remember right the Ribbon Cable is the biggest issue, I'm not sure if the drive aligns just right either if the wrong case is used. There are a different number of bottom screws on the later models too.

See my PS2 Hard Drive Guide linked in my signature. You'll find info there for identifying the different models. Scroll down to the second Reply, A pic at the bottom for installing the Flip Top.

no sticker on the back or bottom of the console but my console still turns on, that wire is fine (thats how i know) and on the ps2 settings it says the model i posted in the first post and this:
Browser & CD Player: 1.20
Playstation Driver: 1.10
DVD Player: 2.12 U
nothing on version or anything, also the problem is getting the silver wire to stay on the side and not the disc tray (will upload a picture soon)

Sorry if this sounds pessimistic but isn't a fliptop kind of outdated? Is there a reason why you didn't go the softmod root with FMCB and OPL? It would probably cost you the same amount and it's more practical in my opinion.
Unless you really want the option to load imports from the original disk, which I can understand for the most part.

Not sure of the version from the Menu screen, Google should know. Does the game disc spin? Agree, the ribbon wire is a pain to push out of the way when putting the cover on.

I like the Flip top, its a great way to add an Import game Hard Drive Install. Saves moving hard drive location headaches for single game installs. Not a great idea to flip the custom top open ever day though, the hinge is fragile. Just be careful.

I'm pretty sure you still need a flip top if you wish to play psx backups disks using freemcboot
