Dumb question regarding Mad Catz Fightstick SE

Post by sabrage »

I have two of these sticks and they're basically gathering dust being locked to my Xbox :P I've ordered all-new parts for one of them and getting a Multi-Console Cthulhu would be the ideal solution to get this thing on my other systems, but I can't figure out if there's any way to retain the functionality with the Xbox while still being able to use it with other consoles. It doesn't help that half of Shoryuken's links on the subject are broken......

With that Cthulhu board you can use it on Xbox 360 and Ps3 (or PC). Im not sure about other consoles that do not use an USB plug.

Currently, the MC Cthulhu will work on the PS3 (with all of the functionality of the original PS3 Only Cthulhu, so yes, it works just fine on PC), Xbox1, Dreamcast, Playstion/Playstation 2, Gamecube, NES, Super Nintendo, 3DO*, Sega Saturn and TurboGrafx16/PC-Engine consoles. Playstation support appears to work well with many converters.
^That's the one I'm looking at buying, because it covers Playstation, S/NES, Saturn, Gamecube and Xbox, all of which I plan on using it with. It helps that I have third-party controllers just falling out of my closet so I have plenty of donor cables/connectors. It's just mind-boggling to me that there's I can't find a way to install the MC Cthulhu on the Xbox Fightstick without ruining its original functionality. Not that I've ever done this before. I know how to solder and I know how to read a basic circuit diagram, but anything beyond that is likely to confound me.

Personally, considering the Fightstick SEs don't have the greatest components to start with. You'd be better off just building your own stick, especially if you've already bought the components to upgrade it.

To answer your question I'm pretty sure you can install the buttons into the Cthulhu without needing to create a switch. Then take the buttons from the Cthulhu into your 360 PCB. Instant dual mod. It would mean having two separate cables (thanks to the stupid proprietary USB protocol the 360 controllers use) but if you mount the Cthulhu to the side with a USB a-b then you can just pull the USB out when you don't need it.

Wait wait wait, the MC Cthulhu lets you use the stick on the Saturn and the Cube? I have to investigate this now because that would mean I need two upgrade my sticks. Cube sticks are stupidly expensive for what they are. And if I can run it on those, I am so building that Candy Cab CP Ive been wanting to build for years.
