NES/Famicom Adapter
Since having discovered that they exist, I've been looking for a 60-to-72 pin adapter to play Famicom games on my North American NES, but I can't find one, even on eBay. I don't know if I'm not searching for the right thing or what. I can find plenty of 60-to-72 pin adapters to play NES games on a Famicom, but nothing that would help me play Famicom games on an NES. Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction?

The original release of Gyromite had the adapter inside. Try searching for that.

Yeesh. Thanks guys. If anyone comes across a cheaper one, let me know. That'll be out of my price range for a little while...

Yeah a 60 to 72 pin converter is hard to find. I'm unsure why RetroUSB hasn't produced one yet, it be an instant seller. Same thing goes for the Master System converter.
It seems like a no brainer for the reproduction companies to make these converters. Especially since they aren't emulation boards or anything. But instead they are focusing on creating poorly compatible adapters to play Genesis and NES games on a SNES...

Here's the guide for finding a NES cart with the adapter inside in the wild: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/hacks/gy ... pter-guide
If you get one of those carts, you can pretty easily turn it into a dedicated adapter (like the one found in the link posted by Duane Dibbley).
I definitely wouldn't pay $60 for such an adapter, consider you can just buy a REAL Famicom for that much.

Here's an even more outrageously priced one:sevin0seven wrote:i used to have that same one a year ago and sold it here for $12 i believe. (i got it at ebay for the same price). so just keep looking/waiting..Duane Dibbley wrote:It's not cheap, but:

Re: NES/Famicom Adapter
I just recently found a copy of Gyromite with the adapter in it for 5 bucks, so that's probably the cheapest option, and even if you're not a techy or anything it's a REALLY easy conversion, just involves grinding some plastic off the adapter
Re: NES/Famicom Adapter
If you have a Gyromite (or whatever) cart with the adapter inside, you don't even have to "make" a dedicated adapter out of it to use it. You could just swap the PCB out of the Famicom cart for the Gyromite PCB, then close the cart back up and use it like a regular old NES cart. Of course, if there's a bunch of Famicom carts you wanna play on your NES, this isn't a good option since it'll take a while every time you wanna switch a game. But it is an option, for the less mod-savvy person.
