NO! You should play the PSP remake of Ys III and compare/contrast to the original.
I played that first (last year). :) It's 100 times better than the original.

A couple of tips:
1. You NEED to learn the jumping mechanics. They're quite awkward. To slash at the peak of your jump, there needs to be a noticeable delay between the push of the jump and attack buttons. Otherwise, you'll do a downward slash or slash too early. It took me a while to get this down, which is a pain because a lot of bosses are located near the top of the screen.
2. Power level early on! In the second dungeon, there's an outdoor section with a bunch of birds divebombing you. You can level up the ASS here. Max out your level and grind until you get enough money to buy the best sword/shield/armor from the town. The next four or five bosses will be a complete cakewalk.
3. Don't fight non-boss enemies after you you've reached the level cap. It's pointless and you'll just end up getting hurt.
4. Relating to the last point (and this is the main "cheat"), abuse the hell out of the save system. When you save and reload, all enemies on the screen will have vanished. In a pinch? Just save and reload. In the second-to-last dungeon, I would save every 20 seconds or so and reload when needed.
5. Following up on the above tip, make sure you get to every boss with full health! If you loose energy from a regular enemy, reload!
6. Use the power ring at bosses, all other rings are useless or nearly useless. Since it drains your magic, only have it equipped when you can actually use it. Some bosses fly around or whatever for awhile, unequip the ring while they're doing this or you'll be wasting your precious magic points. Thankfully you can equip/unequip during battles. Also, use a herb if health gets low, it will restore it completely. Only use herbs at bosses (like I said, don't get hurt by regular enemies)!

What do you guys mean by the "original" Y's III? Really not sure which one is considered the first, main one since the series is kind of all over. I really haven't been able to get into the SNES version though, maybe I'll look into the PSP one someday.

Well, the originals are the 16 bit varieties. Surprisingly, the SNES, Genesis, and Turbo CD versions were all released in the U.S. It was also released on those old Japanese computers (PC88, PC98, X68000, MSX2) of course but I've never played those.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana is a complete remake, not merely a port, of Ys III. Originally released as a Japan-only PC game, it was later brought to the PSP and localized in the U.S. by XSeed. Everything is completely reworked, and the viewpoint is back to the classic overhead style, not the Zelda II style of the original Ys III. The Oath in Felghana is a much, much better game than the original.

I've decide to run through Mass Effect 2 again before fulling committing to Mass Effect 3, but I'm doing an Insanity mode run just to make things more interesting. I've never played any Mass Effect game on Insanity before. I'm playing from scratch using a Mass Effect 1 import with the Sentinel class, which I've also never used before, and I'm finding it rather easy so far. Shields down, use Energy Drain. Shields down again, use Tech Armor. Love this class. I even ran up on a guy in Kasumi's DLC mission and melee attacked him to death

My commitment problems run deep.

Trying to get into Gods Eater Burst, but oh no vulgarity sorry guys I wish RPG developers would come up with a better tutorial system than "5 minutes of exposition, 45 minutes of reading the in-game encyclopedia, then maybe you can fight!"

Yep, I beat Insanity with Sentinel as well.

Miranda is one of the most useful party members too, since most enemies in the game used Barriers... Warp and that's not a problem.

Moved on to Ys VI (had to skip IV and V, as they're Japan-only). It's decent enough. The controls are a little wonky just like The Oath in Felghana, which uses the same engine. There's some weird run/jump/slash maneuver that I've only managed to pull off once or twice. You can't save anywhere in this game, but thankfully save points are numerous. Things are progressing slowly so far, I've had to do some serious grinding and the world feels big. I like my Ys games under 10 hours, but I can tell this one's gonna take some time.

Yeah, I was bummed not having her on Kasumi's mission, but I was having fun teaming up energy drain with Kasuma's overload to wipe out people's shields. I love the stuff I'm discovering that I didn't know before. There's one room full of enemies that I was able to get past in a manner of seconds by running towards a cannon, nearly getting killed in the process, and firing it at a bunch of explosive tanks and wiping out every one in the room in one fell swoop. That was so awesome! Saved lots ammo too

I was rather surprised to see how good Kasumi's Shadow Strike move is too. I never bothered with it on normal, she took out some heavy weapons carrying enemies with it on insanity

I'm trying really hard to get into the Shining Force series because I just got a Saturn. I'm playing the first one emulated, but I just don't feel it. I loved Final Fantasy Tactics Advance from the moment I picked it up, but I just can't seem to get into any other strategy based games so far… it's sad, really. Supposedly, there are a lot of games in that genre that I could possibly enjoy…
