Ways to Display My Collection

Post by ElkinFencer10 »

I wasn't sure how to word the subject, so I'm sorry if this confuses anyone. I was wanting suggestions on how to display my collection in terms of shelves. Right now, I'm using my dresser and the tops of a couple of very short bookcases for the actual consoles, and I have a ragtag group of small bookshelves and cabinets for my games. I want some relatively nice looking shelving system for my games and system, but I'm not sure what to do. Also, I'm pretty much constantly broke, so the cheaper the option, the better. Unfortunately, I have no "hands on" skills whatsoever, constructing my own bookshelves isn't really a viable option. What are you guys using? Any suggestions?

Walk around your neighborhood and look for people moving out. They will usually leave shelves, entertainment systems, whatever on the curb.

Be patient and you'll get something awesome for free.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Hmmm...that would make it a little harder.

Got a Walmart in the area? As much as that place gets bashed, they do sell modular furniture on the cheap that looks okay. You could probably pick up a shelf for about $15

lol, yeah, the nearest Walmart is only 5 or 6 miles away. I'll have to check there. It will probably wait until this summer or next semester when I move into my apartment.

If you're moving soon, why do you need to display it?

I'm not really "moving;" it's just an apartment for the school year. My house is only about 60 miles down the highway, and that's where everything is now. I've only got my 3DS and my Wii in the dorm with me.

I used a standard particle board 6' high bookshelf at my old place. It was a hand-me-down, so my investment was $0. It was a bit too deep for display purposes though. I also was lucky and got a real nice pine DVD/VHS case from a buddy that was remodeling. I used it for a while to store/display everything, but now it works great for my movies and beer glass collection. Once I moved to my current place, it had a built-in cabinet with shelves that happends to have enough space for my modest collection. For my systems, I DIY built a entertainment center to fit my needs (and all my consoles). You can browse Digital Press Room of Doom for ideas. Loganm187 posted his room not too long ago, and I really liked his DIY shelves: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 28&t=36000

A lot of folks are dumping there older CRT entertainment centers, now that they have flat panels. You may get lucky and find something (or Craigslist, Freecycle). I just gave away a decent one about 6 months ago. (I live two hours away from you)

Go to Woodlands and get the pork ribs and some bbq slaw with some extra hot sauce on the side...

Oh wait, you asked about shelves. Like someone said, check walmart, the units I have my two CRT's on I got there for like 15 bucks each.

Very nice set-up (especially that gold N64!), but how good does NES look playing on that HDTV? I know Genesis looks like crap.
