Apparently Sony's launching a new service sometime this Fall in the US where folks can download movies and TV shows. Apparently the service is starting with Hancock, and it will be available before the DVD release in the US. The service will become available in Japan and Europe a little while later.
Japanese newspapers get some interesting stories.
Same here.

its actually Netfix thats doing the deal the last time I checked.RackGaki wrote:If I could buy movies with the same DRM as their games (i.e. 5 permanent downloads, no console restrictions) for $10, I'd be sold.
Since they won't do such a thing, I'm disappointed already. Netflix is hard to outperform these days...
Older. Not wiser.
Yup, I can use my 360 to stream them from my computer to my living room. If I was motivated enough to get media center running well again. For some odd reason, Windows Media Center can't stream things off of my computer nearly as well a straight connection can. And then my PS3 doesn't have any hiccups at all. Of course, this could be because the Ps3 is on the top shelf of my entertainment center.RyaNtheSlayA wrote: its actually Netfix thats doing the deal the last time I checked.

Yes, Netflix says they want to stream on both consoles, but will it still be the sub-DVD quality that exists right now; or will they actually provide HD stuff like the Xbox currently has? The only problem with the 360's service is that the library simply isn't big enough or growing fast enough.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:its actually Netfix thats doing the deal the last time I checked.RackGaki wrote:If I could buy movies with the same DRM as their games (i.e. 5 permanent downloads, no console restrictions) for $10, I'd be sold.

Unless it is offered in HD and without any restrictive DRM, I don't see the point. Even if it was offered in HD how many videos could you store on the PS3's various hard disk sizes? Early 20GB model owners, like me, will be screwed (no actually I upgraded the hard disk to 120GB will all of the required installs...but still).
