I fully support putting the belt on Santino. The guy's over and he's entertaining. That's all that matters in this business. I'm happy for him. He deserves it.pakopako wrote:Heh. Re: The Wrestling Thread
It's a work, dude. They certainly rehearse some of the key back and forth stuff in order to get the angle and big lines over. I liked the promos from last night. Some classic Rock in Boston and then he finally said he just wanted to kick Cena's ass and win the match.Gamerforlife wrote:I think the problem is that Cena looks like he's genuinely trying to make the Rock look bad out there. Typically, when you have a good feud going the guys work together to get each other over and discuss the promos they're going to do, but Cena's giving him nothing. Just look at the obnoxious way he kept interrupting the Rock last night. "Yeah, c'mon, whatcha got Rock." The exchanges between those two are getting uncomfortable to watch. There's real heat between those two. I'm surprised I'm the only one in this thread who sees that. It's very obvious, even just looking at the body language between those two. Nothing would please Cena more than to bury the Rock in this feud and he's making no effort to give the Rock anything to work with when they're out there on the mic.BurningDoom wrote:Anyone else watch Raw?
Other than Santino winning the U.S. title, I thought it was pretty good raw. The tag-match between the Wrestlemania main-eventers was pretty good. The "history lessons" from The Rock were pretty entertaining. And Shawn Michaels showing up is always a good thing.
But The Rock has lost it. Last week, and then this week, his live promos have been terrible. He keeps pausing, probably to think what he's gonna say next or to find his place on the cue card again, and the stupid grins are annoying. And the only time he's funny is when it's pre-recorded. It's sad to see one of the greatest of all-time having this much trouble.
I imagine they don't communicate AT ALL backstage, which is why we're not getting better exchanges between them when they're in the ring with mics in their hand. They can't establish chemistry or play off each other. It's a give and take when two guys cut good promos against each other. You honestly think HBK and Triple H didn't discuss their promo before going in front of a live audience last night?
Fuck Cena. There, I said it

He's over with 8 year olds. I doubt anyone over the age of 11 takes the guy seriously.Gamerforlife wrote:I fully support putting the belt on Santino. The guy's over and he's entertaining. One thing I wasn't thrilled with (and I didn't watch most of it because of it - fast forwarded) was the tag match. Punk and Jericho don't need to be interacting in a match at ALL in this build up. I like how novel it is when guys haven't been in the ring with each other yet (granted there was a little action in the EC match) going into the big title match.

Really, so ALL those people chanting his name at the Rumble and the preceding Smackdown are 8 year olds? They certainly didn't sound like it. Those were adult male voices, not like what you hear when the, "let's go Cena chants" start upBurningDoom wrote:He's over with 8 year olds. Really? Do you work with the company? Have you seen Rock and Cena all buddy buddy backstage?retrosportsgamer wrote: It's a work, dude. Re: The Wrestling Thread
Your personal beef with Cena is clouding your perception again, because Cena hasn't portrayed any heel characteristics post-Elimination Chamber. He an' Rock are pushing the PG era restrictions as far as they can, for sure, but that's simply just an increase in the intensity. They need to get the audience hyped and that's something goodie two shoes Cena can't do without adding a bit of an edge to his promos. Without adding that bit of backbone to Cena's promos Rock would be able to demolish Cenation with his promos alone.Gamerforlife wrote:Wow, you are really Cena's most diehard fan if you think Rock is being portrayed as a heel. Way to drink the kool-aid. Cena's acting more heelish than he ever has in his entire career.
Fact of the matter is when you're going up against one of the biggest stars of the attitude era you better be ready to raise the bar, and that's exactly what's happening. Like others have mentioned it's a work, regardless whatever legitimate personal issues they have they are both going into Wrestlemania, first and foremost, as professional wrestlers for the WWE.
And while I am a proud Cena fan I'm also a big Rock fan. I was a Rock fan even when he had the heat and the crowd loathed him. But I'm just calling it as it is. I suggest looking back at those RAW promos in Boston and tell me that placing himself on a higher pedestal than the founding fathers isn't just a tad bit bigheaded and egotistical. Why is the Rock so obsessed with his chants trending worldwide? Also take note of the haughty an' snobbish way he remarks and laughs at his own wittiness from time to time. These are key traits of the classic contemptuous heel.
Now while Cena does address the camera audience his take is more of an Ol' Blue Eyes class entertainer than anything. He is east coast, after all.
Getting that emotion is the name of the game, an' that's when the magic happens, lol.Luke wrote:For me it's the same as most shows; shake some stuff up, redefine characters, and almost try to piss off your collective audience. It works.
Wasn't directed at me but I feel I should chime in anyway. Yes, I have. They keep a really tight lid on it because of kayfabe. It may not have been buddy buddy but contrary to what you seem to think they're not at each others throats. My cousin does pyro for the WWE, an' that's all I can say on the matter.Gamerforlife wrote:Do you work with the company? Have you seen Rock and Cena all buddy buddy backstage?

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Ok, I have been out of the wrestling loop for awhile now and I haven't really watched regularly since 2004 but I do try to keep up as much as I can. I was on wwe.com last night and The Undertaker and Triple H again at WM?! Shawn Michaels the special guest ref?
I'll pass. Hell in the Cell or not. I guess there's only some many guys they can throw at The Undertaker's WM streak these days? I love how last year there was all that hype that Sting was facing him at WM!
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I'm just going to ignore some of the nonsense about Rock acting like a heel. It's just too silly for me to continue acknowledging. He's hasn't done one heelish thing since this feud started. I know a heel when I see one. I was calling Jericho a heel back when he was doing his silent promo thing and I was right.
It's common knowledge at this point that Cena and Rock don't get along, so I'm not saying anything more on that subject either. Moving on....
Looks like the WWE can forgive anything if this former women's champ is coming back
