I can't wait for the Mass Effect movie coming out around 2013/2014. It is supposed to be over the first game, Casey Hudson as well as Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuck from BioWare will be serving as the movie's executive producers. Legendary Pictures plans to produce the film with Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Avi Arad. Should be interesting, hopefully they do at least a good job like with Prince of Persia.Xeogred wrote:Yeah, don't get me wrong, like you guys I still loved ME2. I mean, I even beat it on Insanity and got all the achievements before the DLC's hit, lol. But yeah, I just think it was a slight step down from the first game when it came to the storytelling and some gameplay mechanics. ME3 looks even more streamlined, so yeah... I dunno, skeptical to say the least.
Anyways, I'm still waiting for Mass Effect The TV Series. COME ON!
Less then 66 days until Mass Effect 3 comes out, cant' wait.

I wasn't as much of a fan of the 2nd one either. Seemed like I just blazed through it and I preferred the old combat style.

Eh, sounds terrible to me, lol. The Mass Effect universe is huge, "new material" for a movie/series would be amazing, not just a redux on the first game which is basically a movie in itself. That's me though, I for one don't want movie adaptations of anything this gen since "movie within themselves" applies to so many games nowadays... but I'd be all for new stories and material instead.ATARI800XLfan wrote:I can't wait for the Mass Effect movie coming out around 2013/2014. There are some great Mass Effect comics from Darkhorse. The idea of a Mass Effect movie though just makes me roll my eyes. Why does a game series that is already very cinematic need a movie?

A fine point.Gamerforlife wrote:Why does a game series that is already very cinematic need a movie?
Orson Scott Card (author of Ender's Game) said something interesting about this sort of thing in an interview. He mentioned how often people say, "I LOVED Ender's Game! Why hasn't it been made into a movie yet?" He concludes that movies are often considered the pinnacle of creative story expression these days. In a lot of people's minds a good book can't just be a good book; it has to be realized in film form to be considered truly successful, and until that happens it hasn't achieved its full potential. He's not such a fan of this idea, and neither am I. Mass Effect is probably being treated the same way here.

It should still be interesting to see what choices they make in the movie compared to how I played the first game. Trust me though I do not believe that when it comes to books. I am a big fan or the inheritance series or Eragon and that was a bad movie compared to the book.Key-Glyph wrote:A fine point.Gamerforlife wrote:Why does a game series that is already very cinematic need a movie?

It's not that it needs to be translated into cinema, but rather, that the story is compelling enough to be able to be translated. Some games I want both a novel and a movie of, some movies I want a game and a novel of, some novels I want a game and a movie of.
I'm sure some people think as Card described, but I wouldn't say that's necessarily the case with everyone. Each medium has it's own strengths and weaknesses.

I agree that it's exciting and wonderful when great stories spawn all kinds of permutations, and that there's something about great stories that lends them to this kind of treatment. I'd love more people in the world to appreciate and enjoy how great Mass Effect's story is, and if a movie is what reaches them, that's fabulous. I just have a cynical view of movie-making. To me it feels as if great ideas get mined from books and other mediums all the time because it's known they'll be blockbusters, but then rarely is the result amazing or an interesting use of the cinematic medium. I'm always afraid the source material will be actively harmed by the translation, as opposed to the whole thing just being ho-hum.o.pwuaioc wrote:It's not that it needs to be translated into cinema, but rather, that the story is compelling enough to be able to be translated.
Then again, when it succeeds, it really succeeds.
That's true; I hadn't really thought of it that way. (Oh God. If they go Renegade on the Rachni I don't think I'll ever stop crying. Ever.) And it should be interesting regardless, even if it's not a masterpiece. I'm just being a grump for some reason.ATARI800XLfan wrote:It should still be interesting to see what choices they make in the movie compared to how I played the first game.

Wow! I just finally made it to the Citadel and this game has been pretty damn epic so far! This is really the first chance I've had to really catch a breath and wander around and interact with people. The game's been action packed and full of surprises leading up to this part of the game. Everything's been moving at a brisk pace. I'm having a lot of fun and they start you off with a LOT of levels and points to spend if you import a character. The combat's similar to ME 2, but it just feels and looks better to me (head shots are more visceral than I remember from previous games and it feels like they've tweaked the cover system). The fights have had a bit more of a strategic feel to them than I expected too. This game makes some strong first impressions

I feel like I've done a lot but still have a ton of story left to do. I'm still missing two party members but I'm only 10 levels below the top level achievement, and I've been gaining levels at a pretty good clip since I started. So it feels like I have no idea how far I am in the game yet, which is kinda nice.
