I got my dreamcast near the end so i got it cheaply and the shops were practically giving the games away. But i did also buy since my friend bought one when it was brand new on the market and was truly the best looking console at the time and since i liked the console and saw a chance to get it cheap i just had to buy it.

And it was one of my best console purchases ever i´ve had the same dc for about eight years but eventually i had played all the games i bought to death. But eventually i got adsl and found out that you could download iso´s of dc games and play them without modding. My dc was once again my favorite console. Finally i had a chance to play games i had only read about and were never sold in any shops here in iceland. Intrestingly enough the licensed importer for sega went out of buisness not long after support for the dc was dropped.

Sure it´s a shame sega dropped the dc but it doesn´t change the fact i have had hours of fun with my dc so yeah the dc is in my opinion one of the best consoles ever.

As for the Sony killed sega nonsense that pales in comparison how the Amiga lost to pc :P

For me the DC is perfect because it has great games of the more hardcore variety (in otherwords fighters and shmups), its graphics still look ok to this day (well to me anyway - if i want gfx tech demo's I have my 512MB 8600GTS ;) ), and they seem to me to have a certain 'primary colour'/bright feel to them which instantly makes me feel like I'm playing an arcade machine...
I believe the quality of its sound output from SCART or especially with its own input to a seperate amp using the phono plugs attached to some cables, is vastly superior to the PS2's (well definitely the slimline I have anyway). Admittedly the standard DC controller is fairly shabby, but I think it suits driving games very well.
Get yourself an Agetec stick for everything else.
I love it because it has Soul Calibur which I definitely still think is the best of the franchise, with noticeably better animation then any of it's PS2 counterparts...

I love it because Ikaruga runs much better on it than my GC copy (which stutters a fair bit) (im not slagging the GC btw - I love that too, and it's only retired now cos of my Wii)...

anyway sorry for rambling, but just trying to state some (vaguely) rational reasons that the DC is (by far) my favourite console I have ever had or seen.

yeh I really do believe they feel less saturated than the output from other consoles and while we're at it, ESPECIALLY Sony ones ;)

even to this day, often in those 360 vs PS3 comparison videos, you can often guess which is the 360 as the PS3 ones usually look a bit more 'washed out'(IMO)

yes but when you look at GTA4, the 360 is the washed out one . Anyway I havent had a problem w/ most games washing out so long as I use HDMI w/ super white on, except CoD3, that games ugly on both consoles!!!

The Dreamcast is The Big Lebowski of video games, it was the best thing going when it was on the market, but went overlooked until well after it's demise, I know i was mocked by co-workers, friends, bus matrons, meter maids, the old lady at the end of the street with the insane amount of cats and the "special" kid who carried a Furby with him everywhere he went when I opted to buy a Dreamcast on 9/9/99 they all said wait for a PS2 we are, it will be better it will have a dvd player....I was playing tons of great games months before they had a PS2 and when they got their PS2's home and had little to play, I still had tons of new content to keep me entertained.

The Dreamcast is and forever wi8ll be "the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be!"

50 brownie points go to whoever knows who's catch phrase that is.

now if you will excuse me, I have to go talk to my Seaman! :D

IMO, that's the great thing about Sega, their systems had a good variety because they embraced 2D. I remember reading some older gaming mags that compared the 2D games on the Saturn and the 2D games on the PSX. The Saturn came out on top for most (if not all) of the comparisons.

Heheh, I still remember when I heard about Mega Man Legends, "What? There's going to be a 3D Mega Man game?"

As weird as it sounds, I don't think any console is the greatest of all time.
There isn't one that I would want as my only console, so that's the way I look at it...

Only one console... cant imagine it... but what if you were only allowed one, for whatever reason.

I woulda guessed you would choose either DC or Saturn. Am I wrong? Although I don't consider either one the GOAT, I would prob choose one or the other for my one console. (as flawed at they are)

I agree with you on "no greatest", though. With so many different dimensions of greatness to judge... pretty much impossible, just like any subject.
