Tribes Ascend Beta has opened to the public. By far my favorite new FPS. Fast, chaotic, and not a single hitscan weapon.
Older. Not wiser.

I've never been a fan of traditional 2D fighting games. But for a long time I have wanted to give them a far chance. So any idea where a good place to start would be for me?

I don't think you could go wrong with Street Fighter II. It's got many variants spread out over many consoles. It has an excellent roster (especially if you go with Turbo/Hyper). It's certainly a trend-setter in the genre, and the controls form the gneral basis for many other classic (but deeper) games that would follow from Capcom.MrHealthy wrote:I've never been a fan of traditional 2D fighting games. So I embarrassingly admit that I never actually played an RPG. I mean I have dabbled here and there but nothing to keep me interested. I don't know if its the whole waiting for your turn to attack the enemy or collecting and powering up but it all seems so overwhelming to me. I know for sure that I would probably enjoy more action based rpgs especially those that come with a great storyline. What do you guys recommend me to play?
P.S.
I always wanted to try Harvest Moon.

First, since you might be a prolific gamer, let me suggest Super Mario RPG and any recent Pokemon game. (It was even voted upon.)christopher85 wrote:So I embarrassingly admit that I never actually played an RPG.. If you think those are too easy or childish, maybe Earthbound on the SNES (or the fan-lated Mother 3 on the GBA).
I wouldn't go as far back as suggesting Dragon Warrior (NES) or a wide-wide-world game like Fallout or Final Fantasy just yet. And I don't think you need the hand-holding that takes place in Final Fantasy USA: Mystic Quest (SNES).
Second, Harvest Moon.
The later games have a LOT to keep track of (your various crops, livestock, dating, home improvement, relaxation, mini-games) ... maybe you should try the (very basic) first HM game on the SNES (which is also available on the Wii's VC). Just to see if you're OK with the humdrum of watering crops and feeding animals every day for months. Then try the slightly more involved PSX/N64 games or jump straight to the modern incarnations. (Even that dungeon-crawling spin-off series whose name I forget.. but begins with "Rune")
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

Rune Factory. Should be "Harvest Rune" though right? Missed opportunity.pakopako wrote:(Even that dungeon-crawling spin-off series whose name I forget.. but begins with "Rune")
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

All I've got to say here is: play King's Field games.
