I'm about 20 hours in and having a great time.
I think they've done a good job having two separate timelines within the game. The interaction between the two is generaly that you need to access an item or person that is no longer available in the timeline you're on because of choices you've made, so you have to use the other timeline to get what you need. You definitely have to travel through events and some battles you've done before, but you can quickly skip through dialogue and go through whole story sequences with the push of a button. They've made it very easy to backtrack to get what you need to advance the story or finish sidequests.
They also did a very good job putting a nice twist on the traditional turn based system. The enemies are basically on a 3x3 grid. The closer they are, the more damage they do. Likewise the further back they are, they less damage they do (and less damage they receive). Most characters get abilities to manipulate the enemies positions on the grid so that you can knock frontline enemies to back or pull the back ones up front. This system allows you to be able to knock enemies together in order to pull off combos between your characters which nets you a bonus to experience and gold. You have the ability to switch turns with your enemies or other characters in order to get long combos built up.
The game is just a lot of fun. I definitely recommend this one if you can find it in store still.

Re: Radiant Historia
Good deal, everyone should buy it once reprinted.
(anyone else remember when this happened to Dragon Quest V? It was going for around $80 a pop but then one day new copies started showing up again. Now it's $15 on Amazon... I never remember Square Enix making any announcement though...)

Are you referring to first limited release that came with CD sampling of the OST?dsheinem wrote:reprint? cool. now does anyone want to sell me theirs for a reasonable price (I'm looking for the Best Buy w/CD version)?
I don't have it, but I did beat the game just a couple of weeks ago, a MUST play game, if you did like Chrono Trigger (not a masterpiece like CT) and other 16-bit JRPG's.
Re: Radiant Historia
At the end of the game and must say it's been pretty great. While I've seen plenty of comparisons to Chrono Trigger I kind of felt that it is a lot more similar to Chrono Cross, with the two time lines and emphasis on setting up combos during battle. My only real complaint is that it could have been a bit harder. Especially in the later stages of the game it becomes almost a cakewalk.

Re: Radiant Historia
I've heard a lot of people hail it as a nice throwback to the 16-bit days. Is it really that good? I've been looking for a copy but can't find one, may just have to break down and buy it online.

It's being re-printed though, which will allow you to find a copy.Zevin_Mars wrote:I've heard a lot of people hail it as a nice throwback to the 16-bit days. Is it really that good? I've been looking for a copy but can't find one, may just have to break down and buy it online.
