I don't have money to buy anything expensive, so I'm gonna keep an eye out for them at thrift stores.
yep, thrift store is your best option for Monitors. i got my 22" Viewsonic CRT from there for cheap.

My brother and I have 3 dead Trinitrons between us.
They were awesome while they lasted. Unfortunately they seem prone to developing a pink or green cast before turning to very effective paperweights.
I even had a $1,500 Pro-grade monitor (with BNC connectors & everything) die a horrible death years ago. Luckily I'd gotten it almost for free.
Maybe I just hit the bad monitor lottery. LCDs have been a lot kinder to me though.

No, they don't. I've gone through way more CRT monitors in my life than TVs. I actually have an identical monitor on another PC, but it's in even worse shape. It has a dead pixel, and the refresh rate is so low that it bugs my eyes. I've tried upping the rate, but it did nothing.
What really burns is that I passed on a free Trinitron CRT monitor right before I discovered these issues. I figured "this is nice, but what will I do with it?" D'oh!
I have the exact same monitor! Just hit the Thrift Store or Swap Meet for another. Since they are inexpensive, maybe even pickup a spare.
Weird that you are having a bad run on CRT monitors, they are usually pretty robust. Try a direct plug to the wall for the monitor without thin extension cords. Maybe the surge protector might not be providing enough amps with everything else plugged into it.

I've used surge protectors, short extension cords, and plugging directly into the wall over the years. I haven't seen any difference in the lifespan of the monitors any of the ways I've done it. And I've had a mix of used and new monitors, so it's not like I've been dumpster-diving for them.
I'm thinking they don't last as long as TVs because they are used more, plus, you're expected to buy a new PC more often than a new TV.
Anyway, I should have a new one within a month. In addition to looking for another one myself, I've got my dad on the lookout too.
