Holding fire also gives me auto fire until I have enogh Magic to use the hold shot, then it fires up and starts draining my magic.

sounds the same then. that's not how the ps2 port operates, as auto fire is just always auto fire, and in fact I hadn't ever fired the magic shot....not sure how you do!

you have to hold down the magic button to get the magic shot to work.

there's a fourth button?

I have
1 - rapid fire
2 - bomb
3 - dismount

...you hold down SHOOT to use the magic shot.

MAME - 201,900

Ok, I take back what I said about MAME being easier. The increased difficulty from stage to stage seems much more pronounced in this than it does in the PS2 (maybe it is my imagination?). I made it to 1-3 with all lives intact and had to bomb my way through to get to the boss. I don't remember it being that tough on PS2.

Also, the levels did start coming randomly eventually, though I must have played the same order 5 times in a row first...

Still, this is a great game :)

I remember this happening in another shmup with the level order thing. was either Psikyo or Raiden Fighters.

Yeah, I was not aware that there was an auto fire in the MAMe version. Ha ha. I was just tapping shoot, and then holding it down to get magic.

Does the ps2 port have difficulty from 1-7? Whats the default called? The one abovie it may be more accurate to the arcade. I know this was true with Raiden Fighters, thought I was a boss until I changed it from normal to arcade.

MAME - 207,100

incremental progress, but getting the hang of it. Got a technical for the first time too (though not in this run).

I think I like it better on MAME, though the difficulty seems a bit higher...I am hoping to join the 300K+ crowd in a day or two :)

mjmjr25 - 288,200 - MAME

I had a couple better runs earlier and assumed i'd be at 500K by now :/ So, i'll post my latest score for now. Tired of these roms though. I have to keep re-installing it each time I want to play - it's doing this thing where I hit "tab" to "input controls", but it defaults to this "volume control setting" deal and won't let me play. Delete rom. Reinstall. Wash / rinse / repeat. My MAME knowledge is lacking and so is my patience - gonna let this stand as my score until middle of March.

I hear you, I am terrible with MAME, and to top it the laptop I'm using to run it overheats like a beast, which it turn slows anything related to the video card down.

... wait, you already have the pcb, screw you :x
