RTS is one of my favorite genres but I stopped playing them since I had an ancient Mac up until 2009(2002model).
Since I am guessing graphics is not a major issue of this genre, what are the best RTS over the years I should play.:
-Since I have a 2008 Mac, I probably can't run any 2009 games or later.
-Games on Windows are ok since I can install it on my macbook.
-I have 360/Wii/gamecube . As long as I can use a keyboard and mouse to play the games, I don't mind them on these platforms
-I don't want to play World of War Craft Frozen thrown or Reign of Chaos since I did play this game.
-I don't mind playing command & conquer or Red Alert , since I played them very long time ago. I think I played Red Alert only

Starcraft > Warcraft
If you haven't ever tried it give Civ II a go.

World in Conflict.
Also, some of the old C&C games (not sure which ones, but the new ones are shit anyways) are freeware now, so might want to look into that.

He's going to have trouble running that on any 2008 Apple laptop.sabrage wrote:World in Conflict.

Anyways, Company of Heroes is by far my favorite RTS of this last generation. You'll need Windows to run it, but it'll run on practically anything and is a whole lot of fun.
Rise of Nations was already suggested, but that one takes the cake as my favorite RTS of all time.
Age of Empires II + Conquerors is cheap and a lot of fun, but getting it to run nicely on Windows 7 can be a bit difficult.
Older. Not wiser.
Re: Best RTS over the years
Im all in for Goblin Commander, not to high of a learning curve (compared to most) looks excellent on the good Ol'cube too.
Then Commandos 2:Men of Courage,Great game when you invest the time to learn the basics and adjust to the some what difficulty.

If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.
Re: Best RTS over the years
Two more, neither are quite the best but both still good, are Rise of Legends (steampunk meets mech meets fantasy?) and Age of Mythology.
