Hidden Gems NDS

Post by rmontes »

Hello, i'm a big fan of NDS, this console has a huge game librery, and some of them were released only in japan. Id like that we create a list of games with the concept of hidden gems.

My first recommendation

Monster Tale is one that will certainly become a hidden gem down the road. Its like a mix of metroidvania style exploring with a little bit of Pokemon, its an awesome game though.

I've been looking at that one.

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!, it's sequel Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 and the American version Elite Beat Agents are three of the best games in the system.

The Taiko no Tatsujin ports are also a lot of fun but they are not so much hidden gems as niche titles.

Just in case - 999 and Ghost Trick should be on the list.

Korg M01
It's a follow-up to Korg DS-10 that was only released in Japan. While it's not technically a game, it's the most advanced music software for the DS.

Games I recommend:

  • Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime - When someone mentions "RPG" or "Dragon Quest" when talking about DS, I'm willing to bet this game isn't the first to jump to mind. Too bad: it's a lot of fun!
  • Dawn of Discovery - Awesome game that didn't seem to get much attention on either Wii or DS.
  • Shin Megami Tensai: Strange Journey - Devil Survivor and its recent sequel get all the SMT love on DS, but this game is also solid. Fans of the series/genre should make the effort to check it out.
  • WordJong - Another awesome puzzle game that got sorely overlooked on Wii and DS. Granted, if you don't like wordplay then it's probably not for you...
  • Retro Game Challenge - Not sure if this is "hidden" or not. Apparently nobody bought the game, so surely that counts for something. (Might as well add in GTA: Chinatown Wars on the same criteria.)

Games that I haven't played (or even seen copies of) but am interested in and might belong include: Bangai-O Spirits, Infinite Space, and Soul Bubbles. Would love to hear from anyone who actually has played these games.

I'm hoping Hotel Dusk and it's sequel Last Window count. They really are for someone that's looking for a good story but if that's what you want, they're amazing titles. Probably my favorites for the ds, actually. You'd have to import Last Window from Europe if you live in the US but it's worth it.
