Podcast #31 - The Reset Button

Post by dsheinem »

The first podcast of 2012!

http://www.racketboy.com/podcast/racket ... set-button

This is the first with jmustang1968, the new co-host, and the first show to introduce some of the new format...

...as is probably evident at the end of the show, we would very much value your feedback, and this is a great thread to share your thoughts! We want this to be a show that YOU want to look forward to every other week, so get involved by giving us a piece of your mind!

(oh - and preemptively: I noticed John's mic quality wasn't the best, but rest assured he already had a better mic ordered (it just didn't get to him in time to record), so that problem should be fixed next show.)

Look for #32 in two weeks :)

Listened to and enjoyed.

I liked the talks about Together Retro, Thread of the Fortnight and the mailbag questions. Really helps pull the community closer to the pod cast.

Some jingles for each regular feature would be cool. Maybe you get some of the more musical members to create some chip tune style jingles?

I agree with Curly. I really like the TR talk and the Forum Thread of the... Last Two Weeks. I think it's really good to make the RB-podcast very RB-centric. And obviously the inclusion of John contributes to this as well. Strangely, I don't really have much feedback. But take that as a good thing. I didn't have any moments of "doh better tell them to fix this!" or anything. I just really enjoyed the show, and its pacing. Looking forward to the new consistant schedule as well. :D

so BTW -- I had to download this manually. I'm subscribed to the show, but the feed never recognized this episode. Did you change the feed or something?

So I did listen to this and meant to write a long reply a week ago... Sorry for the delay.

I usually listen to / subscribe to two other podcasts- RPGfan's Random Encounter which is stellar and HG101's Warning a Huge Podcast is Approaching Fast. I also sometimes listen to old shows of Jeremy Parish and maybe some of the newer Retronauts shows from 1up. So those are really what I'm comparing you to here. I hope you've both listened to all of those and would encourage anyone who hasn't to start from the earliest podcast you can find and listen to all of them. They are really great!

Ok so I know the two of you can take constructive criticism. Please know that I have no exp. doing a podcast and might not come off as gruff. That being said, let's do this.

First - the intro music!? I like to consider myself a seasoned gamer but I have no clue what game this music comes from. I assume it's something Dsh likes. I'd axe it and switch it up. Maybe not every episode but I'd still recommend a change. Remember change is good. That's why jmustang is cohost now right?! HG101 did various intros for their first year before settling on something. It's Definitely unique to their show and sounds Jpn gamey. I love it. Random encounter throws in a song every mow and again. Most recently it was a FF7 piano rendition At the end. I loved it. Maybe consider going with some nice midi tracks that pertain to the show or from games discussed. I know editingnis tough work but it's worth it to the listener. Also break up more show segments with music - I love that and others do too.
Forgive me if I haven't caught on yet but structure the show so people know what to expect. Hg101 and rpgfan do this very well. News, what are you playing, industy talk, new releases, interviews, etc. I feel like the racketboy podcast is sort of structured but not enough. I don't know maybe that's just me.
I'd love a section where every podcast someone from the forum is interviewed. Everyone has something to talk about and share whether they've been gaming for 3 years or 30 years. Whether their collection is just nes and genesis games or whether they have a full arcade with PCB collection. I wantto hear from women on this site too.
Also Racket or Nick should contribute and join the podcast every once and a while. Dudes been quite lately.
Sorry if the typings bad I'm doing this on my iPod touch while I'm getting the kids to sleep.

Gonna have to add more later. You guys are doing great things and I'm proud to listen to you. Keep up the great work.
